Default 206 gti timing belt cover removal

I'm changing the timing belt on a 2001 206GTI (EW10J4 engine). I am finding that the upper cover is an absolute bugger to get off. It is held on by recessed 4mm allen screws but access is extremely difficult. I have made up a tool with a 250mm piece of thin aluminium bar with an allen key attached to the end but even with this it is very slow going. Any suggestions? Is there a factory tool for this? When I replace the cover I am thinking of replacing the allen screws with something easier to work on for next time.

For jobs like that I use a short length of hex key held in a ratchet ring spanner.

    Amen!

Hit the one end of hex key with the mig to raise a dimple on the flats.

Saves of lot of time looking for the key piece when it slides through the ratchet ring if you don't mig it.
The less one interacts with rude, ignorant, critical and argumentative members. The more peaceful life becomes.
