    Default 406 indicator buzzing noise

Just recently my wife's 406 had started making buzzing/indicator noises after the indicator has returned to its park position. The stop it I've gently pulled the indicator lever. There are internal or external Indicator lights flashing.
I'm guessing this is probably caused by dirty contacts in the switch. Has anyone experienced this, and has anyone an inexpensive fix? I'm wondering if a spray of contact cleaner into the mechanism might do the job?

The car is a 1999 D8 model with just under 160,000 km on the clock

Very common problem on the D8s.

You need to replace the wand. It's straight forward and permanent fix. I have three Peugeots and have done it to two of them. The third one is a motor scooter so that one should be right.

Series 2 405's do the same thing Gerry.

I wasn't able to repair ours and ended up replacing.

They're cheap as from the Poles, I think these are aftermarket but probably from the OEM tooling:

PEUGEOT 406 605 806 COLUMN SWITCH INDICATOR LIGHT STALK NEW | eBay

None of the negative FB is about these parts.

    Gerry,

I read your original post, with only mild interest. And now mine has started doing it!
What did you decide to do? Any new advice? Did you order one from Poland?

Yes I did. In fact I ordered two (from Poland), one for the other car in case it does it as well. I had notification of dispatch within a couple of hours of ordering too.

In that case I might hold off until you receive them and await you opinion.

On the 406 there were two types. One with fog lights, one without.

    Thanks Dave,
That's useful info. Mine is the STDT, so no fog lights.

Have a look on EBay - both Aus, and UK - they are well described (ie with or without fog lights), and if look around, their not expensive.

    Default 406 indicator buzzing noise

Well, the switches turned up today, and while I could get the steering column surround off and the two screws holding the switch in place, I couldn't get the wiring connectors off. I don't want to force it as I'm known for breaking things and the Haynes is no help
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get the two connectors off?
The new switch looks great - it just doesn't have the manufacturers markings of the original one. The box says "original parts" which is a bit cheeky, though.

You need to push in a little tab on the plug's side, while wiggling it out.

Examination of the new switches will show where this tab locks against.

The plug is very similar to those in the back of radio cassettes.

I was being too gentle, and had to carefully force the switch past the side of the dash padding. Once I did that, it became obvious how it was held in. You need to plug the looms in before pushing the new switch past the dash padding into its new spot.

All good now. These are ridiculously cheap, given their complexity, providing you compare prices of course. I bought 2 (3 x 406 in the stable) and the total cost was $71.00 odd including postage, and it was delivered very promptly, given it had to come from Poland. A lot of Australian Ebay sellers are much slower

I'm pleased it's all done and dusted, most importantly that it all works.

As an aside, I recently bought a Valeo headlight to replace a French made unit, the new one is made in Romania. No other differences. The Eastern bloc sources, with their comparatively low margins and thirst for international trade, make it easier to understand how stuff like these stalks can be so advantageously priced.
