Default GTi6 Conversion, Pull vs Push Type Clutch

    Hello all,

Hoping someone with experience can answer this, as I am happy to admit that clutches are not my expertise.

    I currently have a BE1 gearbox in a 1.9l engine, so with BE1 clutch, BE1 cable and BE1 pedal.
From what I have read, the BE1 box is Pull type.

    I also have a BE3/6 gearbox in a GTi6, I have a BE3 cable, BE3 pedal in a separate 205.
I also read that this GTi6 gearbox is also Pull type.

Could I not simply use the BE1 cable and BE1 pedal with the GTi6 gearbox?

    Thanks,
    Michael

    No.

Be pull type. Are you rederring to the clutch mechanism?

The 205 be1/3 uses a forl to push the clutch plate apart. The GTi6 uses a pull type clutch. Meaning the thrust bearing is connected to the plate pulling it off. As opposed to pushing the plate apart. (Two different types of clutch. Cables are the same, the endes are different on different model cables.

For the gTi6 conversion, use the Be3 pedal box, cable. Usen a 1.9l mi16 clutch. This is the push type with the mentioned cabla/pedal box combo.

You can use any gearbox. That will determine what cable to use.

If you use the gti6 or be1 you need the BE1 lift up reverse gearstick.

    Just reading over your question.

I think you have "lift up reverse" and pull/push type clutch mixed up a little.

If you use the gti6 box you will need the 6 cable also.

    No wonder I am confused!

Thanks Cam for the bit of clarification, I will have to have a read up on the finer points of push vs pull clutches.
I am lucky enough to have the BE1 box and the GTI6 box fully functional, so with the BE3 cable and pedal, I should be able to get it all sorted.

    Should...

Hmmm...if I'm reading things right Cam what you are saying is a bit different to what PeterT advised in this thread. If you have to keep the 6 cable unless you're also completely changing the box it would seem the whole conversion is rather pointless, for me at least, considering the entire reason for doing it is to piss off the stupid auto-adjuster mechanism.
