    Default 405 Mi16x4

I had to sell my 89' Mi16 a few months ago as I was going overseas, very sad day, but now I am OS and have got a job in NZ I came across a 91' Mi16x4, so I bought it, very cheap too. It handles alot better than the old MI16 but it is down on power!! nothing like the old one. Does anyone know why this might be, or is it just the 2nd gen. 16 valve is just not as good as the older one. Also it doesn't have leather and everything is in miles, but I sure do love the drive.

Although the Mi16x4 had a few more Hp in there, remeber you are now driving 4 wheels instead of 2, there there would be a little bit of power loss..

Josh, you might like to ask Paul from Auto Paris in Box Hill (outer east melb) for his advice -- I'd never seen a 405Mi16x4 till I saw the attached parked in his driveway (it's his). Very impressive.

Don't know whether he tracks these forums, but he's [email protected]

well i reckon that mine will keep up with a standard one no probs!!!!!
will kill nearly anything off the line in any damp condition..
twisty stuff i would give anything a good scare!!!!
    i love mine to death...
yes they are a little heavier but you dont notice it will pull full revs in thrid in a weeper. just wild....
mine is a 1.9 89 version, and unfortunatly the 2 serise is a bit of a dog when it comes to getting off the line as the inlet manifold was a flop ....
if you have a serise 2 version take it to a pug specialist and make sure all the diaphrams are working on the inlet manifold, and see if there are any other fualts in the computer this also can make them into a slug....
    hope this helps...
    regards paul.

Paul, if you're ever willing to sell this car, I would be very interested.

I thin of it like this. One you have as mitch said more power loss throught more wheels being driven, diffs and alll the rest and two if o\would be heavier. A friend has one and thats what he reckons and so do i really.

AAhhhh. Yes, true true. I think (correct me if im wrong) all the 4x4 mi16 would have been imports(to OZ) and therefore have the 160bhp figure. Alos with the head work would bump it up a little.

Try a launch against one in the rain, or even on a serious incline, and see how much of that power you're able to apply by comparison ...

Are you saying that there are only three in OZ??

Mine is due to arrive back in Oz late December, and it is also a ser1 UK import. I had never seen one till I came here, and there is quite a few of them. Do agree with the comment about wet/twisty roads, they are a dream, am still yet to seriously break traction in it. Could be trouble when I do.

i belive there is little to no import tax on cars as NZ dont have a market to protect, so its quite likely that more people import these.
