Another on Carsales and one in Tas on here..
Gone from a drought to a glut.
Might have something to do with average samples bringing
    some fairly high $$.

    Yep, that's my understanding.

The few UK based GTi autos I have data for were build for the JA market.

The JA market had a some interesting aspects with both LHD and RHD models being imported and some hi-spec DKZ CTi's at the end.

They were otherwise the same spec as our phase 1 cars - 75kW low compression engine and 1.6 brakes, interior, wheels etc.

There you go, I figured you guys would have the low down on that. Surely an easy conversion to cog box.

We seem to be moving to a market where originality is prized more than the driving. On that basis, would you convert this to manual, or would you preserve it as an auto on the basis that that is what's original and an auto GTI is rare and has an interesting story?

(Of course, my personal views on this are clear - I've spent tens of thousands of dollars creating my ultimate 16 valve 205 that is no doubt worth less than the original, but which I love driving...)

205s are being imported into the UK from Japan. This company also has some other cars imported from Australia.

Yeah maybe... Si models are now being advertised for a few grand, but to be honest even though the 205GTi is on the upward climb, it's still near the bottom of the classic car food chain. The auto could be bolted back in if one day it became valuable enough, and this car needs heaps of work.

There are slme stunning examples in Japan. There are autos but lots of manuals, some LHD some RHD. They are being swept up by the UK guys at a quick rate. There was recently a 405 Mi16 with 12k original kilometers sold for 31k Aud out of japan also.

OK, you guys have convinced to fit an alarm, a genuine Pug one at that to the 205, hidden away for best effect! Not having my good work considered as anyone else's any more, they are the scum of the earth.

Makes a change from all the R8 Gordinis that went to Japan a few years ago.

Thanks. It is quite painful selling a car that you suspect would be damn hard to replace if you change your mind. I still regret selling the mi16 Turbo 205!

very cool. now would be a good time for people to ring their insurers and ask to increase your insurance coverage. When I have done that with Shannons, their valuation methodology was to check carsales.com!!

I've just been drooling over the carsales ad. WOW. That's a very classy car. I really hope it gets a good home (and gets driven).

But then there's a little white Si out in Uralla that would probably suit my needs and I wouldn't worry about driving that everyday in Sydney!

The Si is a totally under rated thing! the steering rack is faster than a GTI to start with.

Good reason to use one in the gti, and increase its value? Plus have it resprayed properly etc.

All the best for the sale mate, while I would love to move heaven and earth to make it mine, I donít have enough organs to sell, and still enjoy it.

Good point. Just did that. Mine now insured for $40k. That still wouldn't replace it, but it would make a loss less of a disaster!
