Old cars are logically redundant, so it is all about sentiment and availability. If a 205 sold for $40k at a Shannon's auction like an even older cooper S, then our price point would move. One day soon we will regret not buying and enjoying these cars at $5-20k.

Definitely, but no regrets here, I'm very pleased to have impulsively bought two (soon to be one) and if I had the storage I'd be collecting a couple more of these and some other classics.

Every one has their stories, one of mine, is I bought a different make of car around 15 years ago for very small money, all original with knitted blankets inside, not much interest in them back then. I sold it a couple of years ago after 12 years of fun. It went in one week and for around 5 times its original value.
The culture and market around sentimental, week fun, hobby cars has changed. Yes cars always go up in value when collectable but there is another factor at play now to do with having a car for just fun. In my opinion this is a growth area that has impacted on all types of non essential cars and bikes. I used to have a classic car, now I have a modern car and a few classics for fun. Go the 205!

...if I had a garage... and the red 205 GTI with Xantia turbo engine is an insult to the original. Nice condition thought.

That opinion would probably change if you went for a drive in it.

We are forced to put modern tyres on old cars, greatly increasing cornering speed and typically requiring better brakes. Then better suspension etc to cope. How far is a mod too much then? Combine this with the argument that the 205 should have had the mi 16v from the factory, the xantia car is not such a mile away. Be thankful it exists and has been saved from the squashers.

Interesting that someone has retrofitted the 'Monaco' seats back into it. It should have the 'Quartet' seats which go with the BE3 gearbox as it is one of those transition 1990 models.

And the blackened external plastic trim certainly makes the appearance 'pop' :-)

Interesting that two of the GTi's (including the expensive one) disappeared off CarSales about a week ago and the last one a day or so ago... sold?

Wow that was my old car, owned for 16 years. One of the many Magic disasters out there, good to see it finally got finished.

I've still got the log books for it here somewhere, whoever buys it let me know and I'll onsend them to you.

That install looks reasonably neat from the photo but I don't know how you can ask that much for a 205 with cheap chinese tyres and stuffed strut top rubbers. Engine bay pic shows the driver's side rubber is so worn you could stick your fingers between the two halves of the strut top. Any potential buyer would be wise to take a knowledgeable set of second eyes with them.

Hmm, a Series 2 1989 'roughy' has turned up on eBay Peugeot 205 GTI Cult Classic 1989 | eBay

Interesting aspect of this one is that it is on the cusp of the AM90 transition of BE3/Quartet trim but in this case it has the trim but with a BE1 gearbox.
