    Default "The Peugeot Wave"

I do enjoy the good old Peugeot acknowledgement wave.

Just scored a thumbs up, cheeky highbeam and a 'we drive the same car, catch ya later' wave from fellow driving a early model topaz blue 205 GTi.

I had to explain it to my mate when he asked "do you even know him?"

It only ever experienced it driving my 205's and 505's.

I get donuts when driving mums 206 GTi or dads 407.

Me too, it's cool to see other 205s (or other cool old/sporty French machinery for that matter) on the road and get a wave. Riding motor bikes used to be the same, but i had a ride recently on a mates bike and things have changed, no more nods. A cynic would say that society is to blame, lets hope us pug drivers are better than that!

Used to always get "the wave" in the 404 and the 504. Never got it in the 505, 306, 406. It has sadly become an old car thing only.

A little off topic but it used to be a flash of the headlight in the Renault 16.

there was an old looking dude on Carlingford road with a white 206 that had a double take on me, i gave him a nod and he nodded back. I saw a red 307 parked on the curb one time near Picton, and this was my first day driving far on my 206, i beeped and then gave an overly friendly wave from my window. Not sure if they knew what that was about.

I can't lie: I'm still on the loser who loves his first car and befriends anyone with the same car/brand - syndrome. you can't help it.

Had someone tell me I had a fine taste in cars. Turns out the person was also driving a China Blue 406...

Also had an old lady tell me that "Nice people drive Peugeots" at my local store. She had an immaculate 405!

Peugeot waves are few and far between in the Far North.
Being the custodian of all the 205s north of Townsville the only place I see another 205 is in my own back yard.
I guess as recent Peugeots have become more mainstream so have their owners.
Which begs the question what is attracting modern Peugeot owners to the breed if they are car illiterate and subject to all the "unreliabe, costly parts and nobody wants to work on them" propaganda from the uninformed?

    Paul.
I think you pose an interesting question.

My guess would be they are in the market for a middle price point luxury and safe car which isn't the price of a BMW or Merc...but doesn't want a ford, holden or Japanese car.

I often get stopped in public, at the petrol station and at sets of lights about my 205. Usually people that have owned a pre 90's Peugeot. Couldn't turn a single head for most (not all) new age pug drivers.

They're out there and the I like that the acknowledgement sets us apart from most other brand cars. Go us!

504's and 505's are getting rarer and so the waves are becoming more enthusiastic though further between here in Byron Shire. I recently bought one of the cars I used to wave at, incidentally.

Equally (if not more so), most "earlier" model pug drivers refuse to acknowledge more modern pug drivers, in my experience.

I think it's more a case of people being "taught" or conditioned not to make eye contact with anyone these days.

I've never waved to anyone in my GTi6, but then on the road I only see the newer Pugs or base model 306s and I (perhaps incorrectly) assume they would just think I'm a loon. That said, whenever I see another hothatch (usually Clios) in a carpark I will always park next to them if possible. A month or so back at Bunnings I pulled in nose-to-nose with an RS Clio as the owner was just getting in. He made eye contact so I gave a quick rev and cheeky grin, got a nod & thumbs up in return.

    G'day,
I wave to other French cars, with a hand out the window for Pugs, usually to no avail.

I give the wave to pugs and cits, if they are pre 2000. Renaults if I feel good that day!

I reserve the wave these days for Citroens and Renaults up to the early 1980s, plus Peugeots up to about 2000 excluding 206s and 306s.

504 and earlier get a particularly enthusiastic wave

As you would be aware Pat, I wave at old french car drivers regardless of what i'm driving, which lately has been the scenic RX4.

Waved at a local blue 205 twice in one day last week (driving the fuego) but couldn't pierce the tunnel vision.

They probably don't wave 'cos there worried the elbow patches will blow off if the window is down

The "Shane Wave" is simpler in purpose. It says "Ang, I'm broken down over here!"
