Default Peugeot 306 GTI v XSI- what difference?

A friend with a 306 GTI mentioned that because of the 2Litre engine and greater power produced, the engine had a larger clutch and also the pedal was harder to depress than other models. Would this also be true of the XSI or is each different again.

They all use the same flywheel, whether clamping force of the pressure plate differs, who knows?

Better post and make it a Peter hat trick!

I wouldn't know anything about the parts involved, but from what I've read on here and elsewhere the naturally stiff clutch is not unique to the '6.

    Difference?

Xsi has 5 doors, so the difference is 2 doors.

    Glad I could help.

Sorry, I missed a word. They both share the same clutch plate & pressure plate, part #205042.

remove the spring from next to the clutch pedal for a smoother and possibly lighter action. Another difference is the turning circle.. the 6 has its gearbox protrude into the passenger wheelbay making for a wide turning circle.

It's caught me out once or twice and turned a u-turn into a slightly panicked 3pt turn!

I've owned two 2.0 XSi models from the year 1996 and 2000 and both were three door models. The clutch was also very stiff on both cars but no big deal, plus I find modern cars with silky smooth feather light clutches to be hard to drive, as the biting point is harder for me to feel etc.

I have been told that a reason for the stiffer clutch movement is because of the extra power and faster acceleration capability of the 2litre motor. A precautionary measure no doubt.

I test drove a 306GTi6 before buying my XSi. I definitely noticed a difference in the clutch.

That said, I guess not all XSis or GTi6s are going to be the same, especially after the best part of a decade and a half on the road.

Also the letters used one has GT and the other XS

Hopefully this too also solves your problem
