Default Tips on cleaning throttle bodies.

Any good tips on cleaning throttle bodies does anyone have? I know to treat the butterflies and seat with care but is there a cleaner apart from degreaser / carb cleaner?

    Thanks.

    Yes, paint stripper.

Also sold in a spray can as 'gasket remover'.

    Yep.

CRC Gasket Stripper | Safe on aluminium, steel, brass | Adhesive removal

This stuff is seriously powerfull though.

They say it is safe on aluminium, but the way it bubbles up makes me wonder.

Get some on your skin and before you have made it to the hose to wash it off you'll be stinging like crazy.

PS I dont recommend you actually use this product. It is nasty nasty stuff.

I'm simply giving you another option for cleaning stuff for when hydrocarbons are not enough.

According to their MSDS, it has methanol, xylene and methylene chloride. So it should work, and also be pretty noxious!

If not in a hurry, a lidded bucket of diesel or ATF cleans well. I've also played with an airbrush at 100PSI and neat acrylic thinners; this is like a jet wash type effect with no water. Wear eye protection.

If your TB has other than plain bearings in it, immersion and thin cleaning products are right out.

I think PK might be referring to the foaming types like Threebond or the Subi one. They're effective, but a lot of people have a hangup about dropping $20 on a spraycan and using it all at once.

Could always try some degreaser OR instead of buying Start you Bastard or such use the degreaser $2.00 odd @ S/Cheap to start your beast & buy a can of TBC with the $$ you saved-besides that degreaser is much kinder on the donk.!
