Hi,
new here.
Have been looking at what is available and came across this car.

It is a UK import with low miles. Looks to be in good shape, but quite pricey.
it drives well- smells like it is running rich.
It has MOT history, but no service history, so hard to tell what lies in store for the next period of time.

if anyone has any thoughts, would be much appreciated.

Craig remember no air con are the mots go back to 1991??

A lot of people lose the service history in the uk (gets too dear at the dealers and do it themselfs).
I would get a local car, no chance of rot (which you can gurantee the red oen will have some were (usually behind headlights,front slam panel, chassis, inside boot and floor pan to name a few places...

You can check accident history as well int he uk just get the rego number off the seller....

Is that a 1.6 engine or 1.9?

Looks nice, but in the past there have been some imported cars that did the rounds around here and the general feeling was they were overpriced and sellers dodgy.

Overseas enquiries I think would not go astray.

Notwithstanding any of that, I would check it for rust like my life depended on it.

The rest is more or less fixable.

Hi,
thanks for that. The car is at dealer in rose bay.
The interior is like new, especially the seats. The only smell was fuel. Wonder if it is the same car, or if so, the interior has been redone.
It is the 1.9 with no cat - 130 HP. Goes and stops very well, just under steers.
There are some funnies though. The ignition switch being one - it is smooth (like worn down) with dents in it - most likely broken in to at some stage.
The speedo is in miles, so has done 115,000km, not the 71000km advertised.
Wheels are like brand new. Paint is OK, rear hatch a darker red. Couldn't see any obvious rust, but didn't look hard enough. Battery was flat so I couldn't stop outside in case I couldn't get back

Ignition barrel worn, respray , interiour replaced - It has had work done i doubt the km are original.

Have a good look under the car for signs of rust. All UK cars I have seen of this age are that way or have been repaired.

Yep, look underneath for rust. All the UK cars came standard with it.

As Peter has said and I said earlier this car will definatly have rust no 2 ways about it

Trust me I know, I have had enough uk gti's to confirm this (this is of course it hasnt had a full restoration).
