    Default 306 BE3 gearbox oil

    Hello froggers!
I am after some BV 75W80 gearbox oil, but I can only seem to find it in the UK and they didn't post to Aus.
My local pug dealer (Mossvale) only has penrite.

Anyone know where I could find some TOTAL BV 75W80 around the Sydney area?

    Brad,
75W80 gear oil should be readily available in most brands.
Don't let the "BV" put you off, it is the French for gearbox ie Boite Vitesses.

    Ahh, I see!
I did miss out on some info! My bad, I am looking for the Total or Esso gearbox oil in 75W80.
A lot of people, including high boost gti6 drivers recommend the total or esso "BV" 75W80.

Really want to give it a try!

    Thanks for that!

    Default 306 BE3 gearbox oil

Just go full synthetic - Castrol Syntrax. It's a no brainer.

Can't help with a Sydney supplier but just for interest the last bottles I purchased from the Adelaide dealer some months ago were labelled as Esso. Maybe call another dealership?

I had to debate and ponder what fluids to change use when I did brakes, gearbox, and diff. I used Penrite in the end, as it is very acceptable as a higher standard fluid for those uses, and it came recommended by some very old and knowledgeable Peugeot "experts".

    Cheers

The Esso 75w80 is available from Peter Warren Peugeot in Warwick Farm. I think I paid $20/litre.

Castrol Syntrax is approx. $28/L from SuperCheap/Repco etc. Even better however, is Redline Shockproof Light at $27/quart from here:

I pickup from his place in Eastwood. It makes for one very smooth gearbox.

I must say, I'm a bit surprised that Allan Mackey doesn't stock Peugeot gearbox oil.

    Thanks for your input everyone!
Dad has recommended redline, but after all the positive remarks about the Peugeot oil, I really want to try it!

As was I! They didn't know much about the Peugeot gearbox oil and said that all they use is Penrite.
I am going to send a few emails around today to dealers and see what others dealers offer.

I'd never use a regular mineral oil again after using Castrol Syntrax or Redline Shockproof.

I agree with Peter T. I always use Redline including in my S16. Improved the shifting and is very long lasting.

Is this stuff going to do the job in the BE3 in my SI or will it end in sadness?

I think you will find that the Penrite GL5-6 specs will meet if not surpass the Toatl
It will be a superior oil anyway.
