Default 207 gti gear knob removal

Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows how to remove the original gti gear knob? In summer it becomes untouchably hot, so I have bought a leather replacement but can't get the original off. It feels like there is a circlip under the leather gaiter, but I've read it is just a pull-off job, or a 90 degree twist and pull....any advice?
    Cheers

AFAIK, it's a simple case of summoning up every inch of strength you have and heaving up on it. It won't be easy.

The gaiter should unclip from the centre console. The "circlip" you can feel is probably what secures the top of the gaiter on to the actual knob.

A far more simple method is to carry a beer cooler in the console and pop it over the knob when you park

Thanks for that, as a life-time procrastinator, I haven't got round to it yet....when I do, I'll get back to you...soon, eventually, when I get a spare minute!
