Default Peugeot 405 Mi16 Series 2 engine query

    Hi all,
Looking for a replacement motor for my Series 2 Mi16. Have managed to find one. The complication is that all Series 2 Mi16's that I'm aware of have the RFY XU10J4. However this one I have found is a RFT XU10J4. Would anybody happen to know the difference? This motor may have been sourced from overseas I'm unsure. So if anybody with a late Series 2 would mind checking their VIN numbers to see if anybody does have the RFT, as the theory is it wasn't brought in to Aus.
    Thanks All
    Brendan

RFT refers to the XU10J4 + its specific engine managment. Physically both RFT/RFY motors are the same.

So does that mean the difference is the ecu?
    Is the rest the same?
If i were to get this motor would it be compatible with all the rest of the componentry that I have? Or is there more to this swap that I will need?
If only the ecu is there somewhere i can get the right one?

The differences in the three digit codes always confuse me. The only difference between an S16 and an Mi16 engine from what I can gather is the vacuum pump. It's fitted to the cam sensor housing on an S16 to provide vacuum for the brakes. For some strange reason, the Mi16 doesn't have one.

One other small detail. I think all S16's have a windage tray, but only Mi16 engines from 11/93 onwards have a windage tray.

In summary, if it's an S16 engine, it can only be a bonus for you.

all the power changes in the 2l xu10's are just in the management yes? varies a bit in power but torque is very similar
The wrong oil is better than no oil at all.

So to clarify, the RFT came out of the 306 specifically? And was this available in Australia? And if the difference is the computer can you simply swap it over? As i already have a spare RFY ECU

According to Peugeotlogic, the only difference is the kW are 108 vs 111 and Nm are 150 vs 155. They both share the Motronic MP3.2 injection.

There must be a reason for it being a little down on power and torque, but I've no idea what it is.

As for 306 exclusivity, it could easily have turned up in a 405 or a PSA product from CitroŽn.

You're in luck - this late model Australian-delivered 405 Mi16 (1994) on CarSales has a VIN suggesting an RFT motor: VF34BRFT271387208

My apologies, the second figure is hp, as quoted on the Peugeotlogic link.
