Default WAY TO GOOD TO WRECK-406 coupe

    Dont let this get wrecked.

It amazes me what comes in. This stunning 406 coupe has just come into our wrecking yard.

Its immaculate and only done 98,000km its in beautiful condition.

Story is that the owner just spent thousands having the transmission rebuilt and its now broken the diff and he doesn't have the money to do it again.

We've driven it (yes it drives) and to us it sounds like a dislocated driveshaft. On full lock (as in a U turn) it grinds like the inner driveshaft end has popped out, once you straighten the steering its fine again.

The leather is beautiful, wheels and tyres are excellent, whole car is very clean and tidy.

Price to save it? We all know what these are worth, especially in this condition. How does $3000 as is sound?

Also, on the same shipment was a Scenic RX4 with a broken timing belt. Not a real good example on one but it does have many usable parts.

I just noticed it has 18 inch wheels on it.

Geez when I was a kid my pushbike didn't have wheels that big.

The car used to be owned by an AF member a while back - from Sydney IIRC...

Has the aftermarket quad exhausts - which I believe there was a thread on! I've seen the car, but not for many years!

BTW - Dave, do you have a 406 antenna...I managed to snap mine off on the garage door this morning?

I thought that was the case stalled. I vaguely remembered seeing the wheels on AF before.

Someone else said they think they saw it on ebay a few months back with a stuffed auto for $4000.

I'm only asking $3000 with the auto fixed. Looking at it yesterday you can see the auto is nice and clean and shinny, hasn't had a chance to get dirty yet. It has to be the bargain of the year.

As of 9am Monday morning its still here. I'll start selling bits off it soon. This car is in stock so one way or another it has to start making money.

This is V6 so air comp is very different but we have them in stock for your car. Always have, there one of our fast moving stock items.

As for the brembo's, yes a few people have asked for them.

As yet no one has bought it even though so many people (including some professional Peugeot specialists) have all done the maths and agreed that its a bargain and there's a few thousand dollars to be made from it but no one has commited yet so we will see what happens.

These V6 engines sell like hot cakes, especially with only 98,000km on the clock so it'll come down to either someone buying the whole car or, if we get an order for an engine and that'll be it, cars dead, game over.

Hmmm you have room and we have a car, I think we can do something here.

I thought you were looking at RenaultSports Colin?

This is actually a good project for someone like you who has the time, energy and brains to work it out. Or, if your not into autos it would be the ideal manual conversion.

But with a body like this and the exhaust note to go with it who wants to fix it, just sit it the front yard and look and listen to it.

I've come to the conclusion that I need a bit more comfort in my old age. I still have Kermit to exercise my "wild thing". Still, you never know, A V6 in the back could be interesting.
