you will need 2 10mm spacers for the rear, the fronts don't need spacers.

Note: French mi wheels have less internal clearance than the Italian made ones and will require a 5mm spacer if you use larger calipers.

dunno if this helps you mate but i got a set of spacers made up by my local CnC cutting guy (water jet cutting machine) for $10 each spacer, mind you my spacers were 3 mm thick so i guess for thicker material it would be more expensive but still very very cheap.

All you need to tell him is the material, outside diameter, inside diameter, stud pattern and stud hole size. My guy said the C&C computer already has a template for this and all hes gotta do is punch in the numbers.

Stud pattern i think is 108, the rest can be measured by takin a wheel off and measuring the actual hub. dont forget that is for the stud holes, if the stud is say 10mm you will need between 10.5 and 11mm holes so the stud goes in nicely. same goes for the centre locating ring.

Please everyone feel free to correct me where i am wrong.

They seem to be pretty easy to pick up from ebay. I'm not sure, but 10mm seems like a lot - you might need to consider longer wheel studs also?

Why do you need spacers for the back? I see lots of discussions over this but never known why. Are the rear wheels a narrow'er track than the front?

The 405 mi16 wheels are a different offset than the 305/205/309 wheels and the front setup (hubs, brakes, struts) have enough clearance that it doesn't matter, the rears tho don't and wheel hits the inner arch and the rear beam.

ah that clears a few things up

    however...

    i spotted on the wheels that i have;

    Gti is fitted with 185/55/r15
    mi16 is fitted with 195/60/r14??? 14 correct?

the tyres fitted would have an effect on the spacers i would require right?

that also brings me to another question. if its a 14 inch rim, can i still carry out the 307 front brake upgrade?

    No.

15" is pushing it. Have a read of the conversion article on 205GTi Drivers forum.

You can fit the 307 brakes under the 405 wheel... HOWEVER if you have the french made ones you will need to either remove some material from the wheel or shave the caliper outer edge or run a small spacer due to more material inside the wheel which knocks against the caliper.

The Italian made wheels do not have this problem as they have a different internal casting shape.

You will have a few mm clearance between the top of the wheel and the inside face of the wheel (the round flat part), this causes two problems - wheel weights cannot be put on the flat part of the wheel behind the spokes and you get massive heat transference into the wheel from the brakes screwing with tyre pressure (more so for trackdays and race events.)

306 wheels, 205 wheels also will fit the 307 brakes....

I'm currently running the 307 brakes on my 205 and have run 405, 205, 306, and ROH Astrons with them.
