    505 towbar

I need for a towbar for a 505, to tow a box trailer, so normal duty is all that is required.

Looking under the car, it looks like a complicated fitting job. Any comments?

I think I have one of those but I have never had to fit one, couldn't be too hard.
Shame you have to sell your 604. I have a couple myself.

Not complicated by the standards of today, I wouldn't think... it needs to have the arm go forward to bolt up into the boot floor or something.

Yep Ray's right on the money. Best to stick your head under another 505 with a towbar fitted if you can, but it is simple.
You need to remove the back bumper. The towbar attaches onto the 2 bolts holding up the bumper and another bolt goes through the boot floor.
Then you've got the electricals to do.
    Happy towing Brodie

Ray, it sure looks like a job and a half with the spare and the fuel tank in the road. I guess it will all become clearer when I get one in my hands.

Warren, I had to consolidate my "fleet" and it was a toss-up which one had to go, and the 604's lost. With a plethora of 604's available, I think they may become a "garden feature". So I am open to offers.

    PS
Thanks, Buzz, your post came in while mine was going out. Willl have no problems with the electricals.

    Cheers,

I wouldn't be surprised if there's some demand for these out Parkes way...

Trickiest bit might be fitting the drill up around the spare tyre frame to put the hole in the floor... otherwise straightforward stuff.

    LATE BREAKING NEWS

Not a half hour after posting my last message I pranged the car!

Breasted a hill at 100kph (open country road) and faced a car turning right across my lane, not 30 metres from the crest. eek! Faced with an imminent head-on, I aimed to go around her on the wrong side, but then she propped, so changed my mind and went to the left but lost it in the gravel. Car turned around and slid down a barb wire fence on the wrong side of the road. Amazing what goes through your mind in a quarter of a second!.

I only have TPC insurence, and as we didn't connect, I have no claim on her as well. cry Might have to put the 604 back on the road.

BTW, thanks fellas, but I wont be needing the towbar now.

    Cheers, a_drink

Just as long as you and the other driver are OK.
On the other side of the ledger though: any photos of the car post cross country?

I'm fine, thanks. Barbed wire fences are good for one thing - bringing you to a controlled stop roll_lau

The woman was very upset, not suprising really as she saw how close she was to a head-on with a couple of small kiddies in her car.

Car is mechanically OK, mostly panel damage down the LH side, and a couple of lens. Noticed there was some grass between the tyres and the rims, so I better get them checked out as well.

Cheers, a_drink yes, I will have one or three tonight, I think.

...which he is willing to sell at a moment's notice.

But it really doesn't sound like your 505's so bad?

BTW... couple of points... always make sure you get in a very slight clip on the other car in circumstances like this... it pays big dividends.

And was this on the Manilla Road?

Brodie sorry to here of your little adrenalin rush and glad to here you are okay. As a motor cycle rider it is one of my greatest fears that some one should block my direction of travel at short notice.
What colour is your car? I might have a few spare panels here the right colour.

Thanks for all the support, guys.

I am beginning to kick myself because I think I locked up all 4 wheels, i.e. completely lost it. But I went back and had a good look at the site and the very spot my wheels left the bituman, there is a drop of about 150mm. I think this is what I and the car could not cope with, because the rubber marks don't start till there.

I spoke to people who live in this lane who said they have complained for years about the danger posed by it being so close to the crest of the hill. To make it worse, this is where the school bus pulls up each morning, hence the drop in the shoulder.

Warren, I know what you mean. Approaching the hill you see the top of a car coming the other way - no problems. Get closer, see more of the car still coming the other way - still no problems. The car now fully in view, and then you see the blinker and the car beginning to turn into your path. That's when your heart leaps into your mouth, when there is now only a few metres left.

Ray, it was the last hill on Loomberah Rd heading towards Farrer College. Do you know it?

Thanks for all the offers of parts. I will drop into my friendly panel beater in the next couple of days and get the good news. Who knows, I might need that towbar after all.

Cheers, a_drink think I will have another one.

    Loomberah Road?

I know where you mean, but I don't know the road... I used Calala Lane all the time, still do when I go through that way, very rarely go into Tamworth.

Anyway, if the damage is bad, we can talk about the car at Parkes if you want to go that way.

Sorry to hear about the car Brodie, however if you still want a tow bar, I have three attached to cars. One on my car and two on parts cars. You are welcome to one of them and the mounting hardware if you wish.

Ray, next time you pass Loomberah Rd, look towards the next hill to your left and you may see a small lane turning off to the right almost at the peak of the hill. And next time you pass through Tamworth, let me know and stop for a coffee, OK?

Thanks cruiserman, the more I look at the damage the less bad it looks. I may just get away with a front left door, taillight assy, spoiler, a little bit of beating here and there, and a paint job. So I may take up your kind offer yet!

I can transport the towbar north for you, Brodie... as long as there's no hurry.

August 6 or 7 is a good possibility... coffee will be handy that time of year.
