Isn't this the wrong forum to be telling us you have things for sale that are probably of no interest Confused?

My recent mail order buying experience with EAI, has not been a very happy one.

Be careful of buying stuff frome EAI, especially their so called "special Cibie lamps".
I bought one from them last week and it arrived with a cracked cover and dented body due to the worst packing job I have ever encountered. As well, the globe and wiring instructions were missing. I rang them and was told to return it. Then I received a call from Stephen (of EAI) who amongst other things said that I had no right to return it as there was nothing wrong with it: And that for that price I should not have expected a new item. I pointed out to him that the defects were probably caused by their careless packing and that the ad. on their web site did not say that it was not new a item.

I can't remember the last time that I had experienced such poor customer attitude; certainly not since the early 1980s.
It goes without saying that I won't be buying anything from them ever again.

PS. I am lodging a complaint against them with the Dept. of Consumer Affairs (Vic).

Sounds like a bad story, con, and I'm sure if they were as you describe or worse to me I'd be looking at further action myself.

What I'm wondering, however, is why a brake pad commercial is under the heading of Cibies?

Do Cibie make the brake pads?

If it didn't specifically say the item was secondhand then regardless of price you should get a new item, sounds like false representation of goods (the Fair Trading group will kick his ar$e if this is the case).

I guess that you'll have to ask EAI that question, Ray.

    Back to the original issue...

I was really of two minds about whether I should 'post' anything about a company with whom my dealings in the past have been satisfactory: that is not to say that they have not made mistakes - but in the past they have always rectified them. This time the staff that I was dealing with were prepared to exchange the battered lamp; hence I sent it back. In response I received a phone call from one of EAI managers who said that I was being unreasonble in expecting a new lamp for a reduced price...... but now I am repeating myself.

Perhaps EAI have had a change of management?

European Automotive Imports would seem to be the name, Melbourne somewhere.

Ta ... it's not hard to find, but you'd think they'd make it easy for you ... isn't that what advertising is all about

Not trying to throw a spanner in the works, but should "General (Commercial) advertising" of such a blatant nature be appearing on this forum?
If this is a strictly non commercial board, should any company be allowed to just register & post ads? I know there are a couple of guys on here with commercial interests who advertise; they also do posts & help people in general, I've got no problem with that, but this one has made 3 posts & from memory the other 2 prior to this one were in a similar vein. deal
Obviously, from the general tone of the debate on it & lack of response, we're talking a poster who just whacks his advert on & runs & not someone prepared to discuss any issues, even ones pertaining to his businesses reputation. moon
Personally, as I say, I have no problems with members in business promoting themselves & their businesses in a beneign way & in fact the ones here more often than not offer valuable advice rather than do self promotion and play a constructive part in the forums in general; this one doesn't in my opinion.

Yes, I guess I have come into the category of an 'advertiser' with the Konis, but I am making sure anyone here who wants them gets a decent discount (on a product on which you usually can't get much of a discount) and it's been something that started because of a question somebody put on the forum.

I think it's okay for retailers to advertise if they have something at a special price (especially if for a limited time or it's a stock run-out deal), but they really should be back to answer questions because that's what a forum is for.

Let's face it, if we want a bargain, we like to have first shot at it, don't we?

If, for instance, Dapco found a stack of 504 brake limiting valves that had been hidden under a pile of mufflers for twenty years, I think it would be nice for our members to have first crack at them when they marked them down to $5 each.

But to blatantly advertise a regular line is another thing. This one is supposedly a discounted line, presumably for a time... strangely for non-French vehicles (unless they have their wording wrong)... but frankly I don't see too many people looking for brake pads under the Cibie name.

Frankly, this thread looks to have been started by a junior staff member with a problem handling spelling and grammar... possibly from their home computer doing the boss a favour. And maybe that lack of linguistic skills has us thinking these pads don't include French stuff when they do.

I still don't know if Cibie make brake pads, by the way...

I whole heartedly agree with your sentiment Ray ... Yep if somethings a great price or hard to source, the yes we would like to know about it first ... that's what a community is all about. So long as it not blatant or obvious commercialism ...

    Ray,

I feel that you are a poster who advertises something for sale; this one does nothing else but advertise his wares, hence he's an advertiser.

As I say, I don't think anyone has a problem with Adrian a.k.a. Can't_get_enough_of_Peugeots.....first posting he made had dealer written all over him; he was asked the question, gave an honest answer as far as I'm concerned anyway & has gone on to become a very positive & productive member of the forum. Now, check this guys postings....all adverts.
It was decided a while back I thought, to go "non Commercial" and a decision made to remove all commercial advertising from the board; this is simply circumventing this decision and sets a dangerous precedent for any other company to have open slather free advertising without contributing either financially or any other way to the board.
Frankly, I saw the last ads that were posted & I can buy better, but as I have an attachment (non financial) with another company I didn't then & I won't now post details for exactly the reasons I have outlined. If nothing's done, then I suppose time will tell if it's going to become a growing problem.

    Thanks Alan!

I think topics like this one, that have no relivance to the forum, should be deleted!!

We just have to make sure we don't get to the stage, where every second post is an Advert. (Comercial) like other forums...

I also agree that clearance items, surplus cheap stock brought to our attention would be great ,
As long as it's Froggy orientated..
Everyone loves a good deal, or a bargain.

However i think this topic crosses the line....
What do you think gibgib ?

    cheers Adrian...

Alan brought this one to my attention a few days ago. I would have deleted the post then & there however "con's" post was interesting & wanted to see what would become of it.
