Renault 20 Power steering

I have recently looked at a very clean 20TS for sale in Melbourne but the power steering is leaking and bits are proving hard to find. Does anyone know of or have any parts to fix this?? It is a series 2 but I'm told series one bits will suffice...

Apparently it is leaking from the rack not the pump.

Ed,
I had the power steering rack replaced on the first R20 I purchased and I think form memory the guy obtained the rack from Caravelle in Melbourne. They may have be able to source one for you. I am not sure if the Series 1 stuff will fit? Back then the cost was about $600, but it had to be done so I could purchase the car, in roadworthy condition.

Hope this is of some help,
Chris

Thanks Chris, I tried Caravelle with no luck! Apparently the series 1 stuff stil leaks but is less prone than series 2. I'm not that fussed about not buying the car but it is a good one and I thought perhaps I can save it from the crusher.

I have a renault 20 with power steering, I can pull the whole lot out and post it down if you like.
the rack, pump and everything is in good order.

No idea what it's worth, just make it worth my while to pull it out and post it and it's all yours

I just bought a complete power steer overhaul kit and the two end boots (gaitors as they call them) for my R25 rack from England. The cost was 55 pounds delivered in 5 days to my door step at Port Stephens. The kit contained all the seals required for the pinion valve and the rack. The company is "Power Steering Specialists". It was a simple job to put the seals in and so far, 2 weeks in service, it hasn't leaked. 55 pounds equates to about $140.00, quite a saving in the long run. renault_

Thanks all,

A friend is in the UK next week, do you have the address / contact details for those "power steering specialists"??

I can basically get the car for next to nothing so if bits can be had maybe I'll buy it...does anyone else want it??

I'll have a think about $$$ for the NSW car parts

Ed,
Good luck with the R20. Have you ever driven/owned one?
They are probably pne of the best riding cars on the road, and still are. head_ban I've owned 3 of them, all manuals so if you need any tech help I'd be glad to try help out.
BTW...just to be sure, I think that most renault steering racks need to be aligned by a qualified Renault mechanic?? Don't quote me on this, may-be someone here will know for sure.

Cheers Chris

Web site for the power steering mob is www.powersteering.co.uk. They take credit card payments over the phone and are quite helpful.
Good luck with the repair, if you need advice send me a message.
cheers! Steve. renault_

Hey Regie, does that equate to Stephen Gee? Glad to hear the rack fix worked.
