    Default wanted to buy...604 diff

Anyone out there have a 604 diff with a ratio of 3.5? I am looking for one to put into my 404 ute so it is a bit more comfortable for the diesel and me on the highway. Thanks!

    Default 604 diff...

I know that, I read it from another one of your posts. Now i need to find one. Do you have any of the 3.58's in your collection of 604's?

    I've got a pile of diff's here.

I am sure at least a couple of them came out of 604's as I cleaned out an old pug workshop last year and he had wrecked at least 3 604's.

Is there anyway to tell what they are without pulling them apart ?

    Default 604 diff

Ben, you're a legend! I know there is a list floating around the forums that listed the codes for the diffs, but if it is off, I just mark the pinion and case and the output bearing and the case and spin it and count. It's not precise, but it gives a pretty good indication. If you find that you've got one, let me know and I'll drive down and get it, i'd love to meet you and see your collection anyhow. Thanks!

check the end of the pinion shaft and you will find the gearset stamped on there

If you are really desperate, couldn't you just turn the spline to the transmission shaft and carefully count the full turns and partial turn to the drive shafts and work out the ratio from there? Or have I missed something?

that's what I said! It's hard to do on a pug with the torque tube, but pretty easy off the car.

but if the diff is out of the car you needn't try and count anything as the gearset is stamped on the end of the input shaft
