Default WTB: Brake booster for 2003, Peugeot 406, hdi

    Hi
I'm in Lake Macquarie near Newcastle and a recent brake booster failure has me scrabbling round trying to get a replacement or a brake specialist who will re-build. I got one from a wrecker but its not the right one in spite of me supplying VIN. It will be going back. The brake specialist in Adelaide says he can re-do the back seal but I suspect mine is the internal diaphragm which he says he can't do. I have a car with low ks that is otherwise very good.....hate to have to scrap it. Help?

You can possibly use one from a C5 of similar vintage. That would widen your options. You'd need to look up your VIN in the Pug catalogue, find the 406 booster part number and see if it is used elsewhere. If you can't do this, pm me your VIN.

My VIN:VF38BRHZF81585484. Is the parts catalogue accessible without paying for a download? I'm assuming the numbers on the booster are Bosch numbers. I thought of the possibility of Citroen using the same booster but the mechanic I use would have made that connection....they have worked on both marques for donkeys!

I'm wrecking a 2003 406 HDi auto. I'll check the part numbers. Is yours auto or manual?

    Hi

Thanks everyone for your help. My mechanic had a spare and a local brake specialist was able to repair it so it gets fitted next week. Hopefully the same brake people can re-build mine and the mechanic will have a spare. Few more years will suit me fine then I can put it on historical reg.
