Maybe, you are better to do a rebuild? Or has some major component broken?

I assume it's an MA5 gearbox? Bearing kits are readily available and plenty of people have experience with them. I think The Gearbox Factory in Sydney would be able to help as could a few local workshops and wreckers like Riverside and A Twins.

The MA5 gearbox was used in a large number of Citroen and Peugeot vehicles, so looking up the parts systems will help you. However, the case is different on anything in a Sensodrive car and the C&P ratios vary. So, for example, in addition to a different case, a C3 Pluriel has a C&P ratio not shared by other Citroen models.

David, doesn't the 206CC manual come with the 2.0 L engine and a BE box? I have only seen the TU/MA in non-CCs unless Alzheimer is winning.

OP says 1.6 twin cam??? Maybe, it's not?
If it's a BE gearbox, then obviously ignore the MA5 commentary.

    Definitely a 1.6 Twin cam
the 206 cc comes with a 2 litre or two different 1.6 engines.

the box is too far gone fir a rebuild.
these are the numbers i can see at top.

Here is a drawing of the MA gearbox.

There are so many engine/transmission combinations in Peugeots it is important to get it right.

The Gearbox Factory that David S mentioned is just around the corner from you.

That translates to 5 speed manual gearbox in English.

Try to read the label. Here is a table of MA5 boxes fitted to TU5JP4 engines. Tyres affect the gear ratios, and if you locate a box it will need to have the correct internals.

So you are looking for an MA/5S box to suit a car with 195/55 R15 tyres.
In the VIN, the 3 letters starting from position 6 are the engine code.

There is a guy in Lowood who wrecks Peugeot's, David Williams from memory. I was out there recently, I am sure I saw a 206 convertible in his holding yard. He advertises on ebay and Gumtree.

i have emailed and sms David.
He doesn't have one. The one i looked at yesterday was incorrect but the wrecker swore blind it would fit. When they removed it from the car the casing was damaged and you could see the diff gears

The tyres can be specified in the BSI, so that's not the critical concern. This can even let you use an alternative gearbox and still have the speedo working properly. Otherwise, your C&P ratio of 17x64 is the key point. This is shared by Citroen C3 with the 1.6 TU engine. However, it was sold here as a Sensodrive and probably not as a regular manual. As the Sensodrive case is not the same, you couldn't fit one as found. The innards may be useful though, if you confirm the ratios are common. C3 Pluriel is a different C&P and has the Sensodrive case.

Why is the gearbox you have too far gone? If the input shaft is off centre, that will be due to the bearing having broken its plastic cage and the balls moving to one side. Similarly, the broken rivet on the selector arm inside that makes the gearbox seem to lock up appears to be a terminal problem, but can be repaired with a peened bolt. What really kills them is when the pinion bearing drops a roller and it jams between the case and crownwheel, usually breaking the case and causing a large oil leak. The odds are a random used gearbox may be heading towards these failures in any case.

If the ejected pinion bearing parts (most likely cause) didn't take any teeth off the C&P, you may be able to weld the case and put it all back together as a last resort. It might be worth asking the gearbox factory what it might cost.

p.s. Something else I found that may be important to you re the gearbox in the 206 ...
    http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/repair...b/b2cb4gk3.htm
It tells you the input shaft splines were lengthened and the crankshaft bore altered. Beware.

There's a heap of really useful 206 info that can be applied to other models using similar components here:
    Documentation technique AP

Some specific info on the MA gearbox casing:
    http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/repair...b/b2cj06k3.htm
DuckDuckGo found that, but I couldn't find it via the website menu.

For info, if it had a BE gearbox, this would be of interest:

Gee thanks a lot for that. Very informative and i only looked at the transmission section so there is a wealth of valuable tech on the 206. The early box will fit then. From a quick look at a 1.6 box from a 2002 model it looked like it was missing one of the sensors at the top that the box in my 206CC has.
