That's worth it just for the chrome centre cap alone! If in good nick, and if the diecast chrome instead of plastique, they are getting quite rare.

Oh, and if they are from a 12 Special, they will be 4.5" rather than 5". The 5.5" versions were used on the 12G & 17TS/G.

    Default centre cap

So the centre is metal but there is no retaining clip. Would need a sandblast and rechrome as to be expected being 40+ years old now.

So they could be a decent wheel to have widened and make some faux G wheels

In terms of the width - Im not sure now. The front 'hub area' sort of protrudes forward from the rim. Most tyres are 165 wide as per the picture so they could be 4.5 or 5 inch I guess.
I just need the diameter caliper from the old servo I used to work at in 1987 to get a quick answer there.

The width will be 4.5 inch.

If you want a cheap upgrade to 5 inch rims look for some R18 rims, these to have the center hole so no problem getting them on a tyre change machine or a tyre balancer.

    Col,
Yes I recall a few R12's with R18 rim upgrades in the 90's.
I've really only listed these here as I'd hate for someone looking to do a 'faux gordini' upgrade to miss out.
Having said that is anyone allowed to do such 'cut and shuts' on road wheels anymore? Depends on each State regs I guess.
    Thanks,
    Ian.

You can get the clips for those small chrome caps. And there are a few new ones about on cast n chrome. One guy in USA I saw online once if you search.
I have a full set of Fergats with added chrome outer trim and complete small chrome caps as a second set of wheels.

Someone of our AF guys in ACT go and pick these up, please. Easy to refurb

You would be better drilling out the welds and welding on new rims to those centres, that way you can have your desired offset.

I'm happy to take them if they're still available and I can sort something out with my father-in-law who lives in Canberra.

4.5 is fine for 175/70-13 & nothing bigger in a tyre is available in any decent tyre type. Fortunately, Continental has recently re-instated the EcoContact3 in 175/70-13 so there is now one decently grippy tyre in that size again.

One could, of course, benefit turn-in by pre-tensioning sidewalls with a wider rim but much the same result can be achieved by playing with increased tyre pressures using the 4.5 rims (the EC3 structure is very responsive to pressure tuning of handling balance).

If one likes the look of this centre (compared to the regular ones) then grab them & not fuss that they are but 4.5".

    cheers! Peter
