It looks pretty bootleg. You'd be able to tow an empty trailer.

My R8 had the same one on when I first bought it. Of course I never drove the car until after it was restored, so the towbar is sitting in the parts shed. I thought it must have been home made, but it is exactly the same.

    A 10 would tow a 6x4 trailer no worries.

I would think someone would want it more for rear end protection than towing.

We've had a few of them over the years, any ID tags fell off many years ago but they were a production tow bar.

Many long years (early 70s or thereabouts) I had a very nice 10 and at the time I was riding Speedway solo's at Newcastle, the 10 had a towbar and I fashioned a rack on the back to carry the Jawa on.The front wheel went in the luggage compartment along with the Tools Leathers and fuel and away we would go,myself and wife and child every friday night. The little beast had a fair amount of Neg Camber at the back but it went throug the twisty bits like a roller skate and indeed became quite notorious amongst fellow riders who could blow it off up the hills but not around the bends or under brakes. It was a terrific little car and is much missed and a definite standout in the small cars of the era.

I'd be suggesting that no self respecting restored R10 owner could be without a towbar and a chrome towball cover, whether it was used or not......

That looks like a better design than my tow bar. Mine is just a horizontal tube bolted between the rear bumper bar brackets and sits just under the rear bumper. I've never towed with it. It still has the slightly bigger tow ball and I'd need to drill out the tongue to accept the 50mm tow ball, which I haven't had any real incentive to do yet. My Virage on the other hand may have been known to tow 1.3 tonne of quarry rubble behind the trusty Trojan! No back doors popping open or anything
    Just a tad dangerous/illegal/irresponsible/stupid though
    cheers,

    John

The scrappie is coming at lunch time. Looks like the tow bar is going with him.

Ps - you don't happen to have the tongue part that bolts to this do you?

I'm missing that part (that the towball sits on). THAT I would buy off you in case I decide to use mine.

No that's all we have.....so far anyway.

Trying to clean out the back yard at the moment so you never know what's out there. Lots of R10/Dauph panels. Even a Floride rear boot/engine cover.

Oh shoot. After all that the scrappie came and we loaded up the bins and just as he drove off I turned around and this bloody tow bar was still there.

He's coming back on Monday so Monday it'll be gone for sure.

The scrappie came back yesterday and he had with him a large tri axle trailer so I suggested he take a few panels from the back yard. We filled his trailer completely with old gaurds and doors off Dauphine, R8, R10, R12, R16, GS, CX, BX, Xantia. He was rapt when I showed him old Citroen bumpers were stainless. Lots of R10,12,16 & 17 bumpers. Certainly made it worthwhile calling in.

These are panels that have been here for 30 + years so there's no point complaining because people have had plenty of time to grap them. They have already been rejected by the restorers.

Someone came and bought the Floride engine cover that was amongst them but now we've created a hole I can see some D safari rear gaurds, Floride front bonnet/boot lids, CX gaurds, R4 tailgate, 404 doors and to top it all off I turned around and that bloody R10 towbar is still there. It must be a boomerang.
