    Default WTB R8 Clutch Cable

A recent quote from MecaParts for the supply and delivery of a clutch cable to suit R8 (late g'box) showed that the delivery cost was as much as the cable itself!

Does anyone know of any one locally (in Melb, or Aust) that can supply this part?

Have tried Ken at Caravelle, but has not had this cable for years.

If you have the original one which could be used as a pattern, I could get you one made up locally ( Hobart) otherwise you could try and see if there is a supplier in your state who could manufacture it for you

The expense of freight will most likely be reduced significantly if you instruct them to bend the bar through 180 degrees to shorten it's length. I bought one from Austria and that's what they did, and the cost of freight wasn't offensive.

I do have the original, and although it looks and worked fine, I prefer to change it now whilst the car is bare. if I arrange to post it to you and cover the costs of return postage, what would be the charge to get one made up?

I suppose the steel rod part could be unclipped from the cable and reused?

I don't know much about your cable, but if something can be in unclipped them that's the best. I'll send you a Pm

I think the cable and rod are crimped together Angelo, but perhaps an internally-threaded connector tube could be made to connect a newly made cable with your rod, a bit like the early R8 ones that had a different arrangement at the early type gearbox end. The cable folk could probably organise a male threaded rod attached to the cable, and you could thread the rod and connect them with the internally threaded tube. The R8 version had a left hand thread at one end and two lock nuts (one left-handed and one right-handed) so it acted as a turnbuckle to adjust the clutch.

Thanks, but the one I have is in good condition, so would prefer a new one whilst it is all apart - the "stitch in time saves nine" philosophy is being adopted.
