Default Another 'outing' for Renault Turbo Speedcar

Bob Goddard (Builder/Driver) and myself, as pit crew, ventured down to Collie Speedway again on Friday night, 6th January.

This was the 2nd competitive outing for the Eurocars Renault Speedcar and whilst not earth shattering it was another successful adventure.

Bob started in 4 events and ran the full distance in every event, without incident to record 5th, 5th, 4th, 5th in his 4 events.

We used the evening to try some various suspension set-ups, varying shocker settings, torsion bars, tyre stagger and wheel offsets, between events.

Will now make some subtle changes to seat height and position before next event.

At last outing the car was coming in with temp gauge around 220c and we were adding 750ml of coolant after each heat. Since then we have added a header tank, above rocker cover, and car came off track at 180c and we did not need to add any coolant at all for entire evenings racing.

Car comes off turns well and has ample power on straights, but losses a little going into turns, due to some front end 'push' (under steer) some fine tuning of chassis and suspension settings should get that sorted by next meeting.

So that's 2 competitive meetings (8 races) with no mechanical problems and no on track incidents, so car still like new with no scratches or dents!

    Rod & Bob,
100% reliability, what more can you ask. Do they pay 'lap' money?

Our Holden engined midget [Boulder Speedway] suffered from understeer, lack of power and driver skill.
It was overcome purely by ringcraft when we fitted a larger RH front tyre after an accident.
    A complete transformation!
When building up the damaged front end after buying the car we got Jimmy Forrest to build in a lot of pos caster, jackable offset front transverse leaf and zero ackerman steering arms.
Why? Because I read somewhere it was the done thing.
    Good 'ole days.

No 'lap' money, but prize point money based on total points earned on the night
