Default WRC 2011 : Rally Great Britain

Once again Ch One is giving us great coverage of the final rally in WRC 2011, the Rally of Great Britain, this year in Wales. Day 1 was Sun, Day 2 was 10.30am this morning, check your guide for the rest.

Loeb by the end of Day 2 is champion for another year. One of the Festiva drivers running 2nd in the championship was doing about 9km/hr more than Loeb through what looked like a timber mill. The extra speed caused him to spin out, badly damaging the front of the car. In the finish the motor was ruined.

Loebs other main opponent spun out on bitumen on the first stage no more than a km from the start. This section of road was spectacular. It made the Great Ocean road look like a dead straight boring road.

It was a great event that proved to be extremely hard to pick. With Ogier out on the first stage, Mikko cooking his engine, Petter losing fuel pressure on a transport, Sordo parking it in the trees, and Loeb's head on collision with a spectator on a transport on the last day meant there was never a dull moment. Had Mikko no retired he would now be crowned World Champion in light of Loeb's exit.

Jari-Matti drove well for his win and it has been a fair while coming. He normally falls short due to silly errors on the stages, but he held it together enough to take out the top spot. Definitely a case of 'to finish first, first you must finish'

The highlight of the event was the battle between Kris Meeke and Henning Solberg, Meeke playing catch up from power loss problems earlier in the event. With four stages to go he had to make up over 20 seconds on Solberg for third place. Putting in consistently great times he entered the final stage with only 1.8 seconds to make up, but a slight error of judgement late in the stage saw him lose 5 seconds and miss out on the podium.

A great way to end the season, can't wait for next year to start.

He (Mikko) will be Sebs team mate next year. Sebs current team mate is rumoured to be going to Ford. Team orders dont sit well with him and cant say I blame him with some of the calls he has had to put up with this year.

You are right FiveDoor with Seb's current team mate @ Citroen. Being a Loeb fan I've no doubt (unless like the wrestling) that Loeb's current team mate gave the impression he was pressurizing Loeb a few rallies back. But the team mate has since made some bad errors of judgement particularly in Wales.

Jarri-Matti looks very composed as he drives. I'd love to have a crack at some of this. But no doubt it's either for the young or the very good as one slip and you could be history!
