    Default Canberra Motorkhana at Easter

I have volunteered to organise the Motorkhana that forms part of this year's Peugeot Pageant to be held in and around Canberra.
It will be held at the Canberra Greyhound Track at Symonston from Midday on Easter Saturday.
If you want to enter but aren't a car club member yet you can buy come and try licences but I would need to know soon so I can have the appropriate number of licences on hand.
Of course you are welcome to come and take a look.
Also if you want to be involved in the other activities over the weekend get in touch and I'll see if the organisers can squeeze you in.

    Graham

    Hi Graham,

    I'm keen.

Is that part of the Canberra Peugeot Club? I'm not a current member, but am a member of another club.

What club are you in Owen?
If it isn't a CAMS affiliated club then you could join PCCNSW or PCCV then get a proper CAMS licence or just go for the come and try.
Peugeot Association of Canberra is organising the overall weekend.

    Hi Graham,

I'll need to renew my CAMS licence, but I'm in.

I've been out there before for motokhana events, but do you have a link to any info about the day?

    Cheers,

    Owen

The days events consist of a concourse display at Mt Majura Winery from 0930 to 1100, all welcome to come and take a look, the motorkhana starts at 1330, best to come by 1300 so we can start on time, and finishes at 1630 but I'll be happy to keep on running tests as long as we don't get kicked out at 1630.
The registration form shows details of events, driving skills event is still running alongside the motorkhana, things such as parking tests etc.
Hopefully this will keep everyone happy and result in a big turn out.

    Hi Graham,

One last question: is the motokhana going to be on the dry area or on the wet skidpan?

On the grass so no tyre wear
No skidpan at the Greyhound Track.
We can use bitumen area if it rains
I have to assume everyone else in Canberra is away or already taking part in the Pageant.
Come on, put a bit of fun into your life and give it a go, at least turn up and have a look.
This is entry level motorsport, no high speed or danger to your car, just a lot of fun.

Oops, I mistook the greyhound track for the driver training centre out next to the SDMA hill climb at Sutton.

It should be good fun on grass.

I've paid up & am trying to get some others interested!

Results attached, as you can see you did very well, coming 2nd outright. The event was won, however by a 1954 model 203!
The 203 was superb to watch with the way it pirrouted around the flags, Geoff was using 2nd gear which meant he didn't have much acceleration away from the flags, enough to win though with the help of a few others making mistakes.

I think it might be because just maybe Geoff could drive a little bit. It was good to see the Young Taylor whip his Old Man.

That is the first motorkhana that I have been beaten by a truck (605 Ute) !

I had a great time, a lot of good steerers (and stirrers) there.

Sounds like it was as much fun as we used to have on grass back in the 70s, eh, Flash? Aah, and those wonderful Anzac Day dawn motorkhanas on Majura Road!

What a great result for Thorney The Younger I and II. Well done, lads!

And why would ANYBODY think that Geoff Boyd's performance was 'lucky' (as reported to me on the weekend). No luck whatsoever. Just normal.

For those of you unfamiliar with Boydie's legendary precision and car control, can I let you know that in MANY Canberra motorkhanas in the 1970s, a lot of folk offered him a run in their (very diverse) cars.

If my memory serves me right, there were only two drivers who were ever faster than Geoff IN THEIR OWN CARS. One was Peter Deck (Cooper S and NSW Motorkhana Champion), and the other was me. At one Anzac motorkhana, in my 240Z, I was faster in 4 events and Boydie was faster in the other 4.

In every other driver's car, he was instantly quicker than the owner, often in a car he'd never even sat in. (Flash, remember that unforgettable muddy lapdash he did in that visitor's soft-top automatic Chev Corvette!? With passengers! Never to be forgotten! )

    Fond memories indeed.

I'd have enjoyed being there at Easter, but alas, I was racing the 260Z at Eastern Creek. Oh well, sometimes we have to make sacrifices! (Hehehe)

    Cheers

I remember him in the "Chicken Man's" 327 Monaro bettering Deckie's time (in the Cooper S - last I heard Mr Deck still has it) in the straight slalom at one Dawn Motorkhana.

Look at the steering lock on the 403
It's great the event has gone over so well.
I offered to organise it as I do think a Motorkhana should be a part of the annual Easter get together.
Keep the pressure on the NSW club to include one at Young next year!

I don't think the 403 was even on full lock! I am sure when I competed against Trevor Churton in his 403 that his front wheels would turn through 360 degrees some times .

Good luck with the NSW club pageant running a motorkhana at Young next year . We don't have enough (any) CAMS officials that I know of.

Neither did Canberra until I volunteered.
