    Default 203 at AGP

I took my 203 rally car to the AGP as part of the Historic Rally Association display, click on picture below.
The 203 got heaps of interest, the front badge and lion mascot seemed to be the focal point for a lot.
Later on on Sunday I decided to create a bit more interest in this area, see photo!
The display was a brilliant success, 15 cars and everything from an immaculate Healey 3000 works replica through a Datsun 710 SSS replica with the only running 2 litre Lz engine in the world to the original factory BDA Escort in Australia, IYK000.
The Nissan factory wanted to ship the Datsun to Japan for Rauno Aaltonen to drive at a publicity day as the one in their museum didn't run.
Funnily enough another car that got a lot of interest was a RWD Corolla with a twin cam engine, I guess a lot of people could see themselves building a basic car like that.

...so let me get this straight; Nissan in Japan thought it would be easier to ship a collectors car to Japan for an event, than to fix their own 710 SSS?!?

heh, nice work with the rope!

Glad to hear there were some people there with taste.

I hope it was a good day for you. I took the easy road and watched it on tv. My girlfriend - God bless her - put in a good effort and sat with me, and even asked questions about tactics et cetera, but eventually fell asleep on my arm, which in turn fell asleep

Nice, Graham. If I'd known, I'd have come along and said hello.

Is the 50-ish year old bloke in the infield who asked me to shift slightly so he could take a photo of the back of the road Renaults on display, and commented about the annoying pole between them in the frame, a member of the forum? Didn't think 'til afterwards to ask.

Bit of a story behind the engine in Neil's car.
It was given to a rally preparer (runs Tayell Automotive) by his brother who had worked for the Datsun Works team as a mechanic.
It held up his coffee table for years as it had expired on a rally and then had been ratted for parts.
The 710 replica was slowly getting built up (based on a a road car from South Africa) and a decision was made to get the Lz running which it does but it is treated very kindly as it is a little fragile and of course impossible to get new parts.
The replica is full of works Datsun parts which didn't find their way back to Japan as they should have when the cars were returned!
Glad I brought ear muffs, I left soon after the start and saw the final laps on TV.
Moffats demo drive in his old Mustang was proably the highlight although standing right next to the V8 crash was entertaining.
