Default 3 Pugs at Wakefield Fight it out

Looks like its becoming a regular event with the 3 pugs of diferent eras battling it out tomoorow at Wakefield Jan 30th.

Barry Black in the 306Gti6 which whipped our butts last November.
Carley Black 206 GTi180 which is very quick and consistant. Had a DNF last round.
Me in the 205 gti, not as quick as the 180 but a tad qicker than the Gti6 (in the dry).

I should have some good video to share with you come Monday.

    Racing starts at 9am

Results can be seen on Natsoft race results.

Parry just got down to a 1.13 in the first race. Not bad for a 8 valve motor that was thrown together from parts.

Good luck with the rest of the day.

What a fantastic day even though the temps were hitting 37deg!!!

The 3 pugs qualified together with the 306 taking the Peugeot pole, then me in the 205 and then Carly in th 180. Carly was sufferring with tyres so she struggeled most og the day.

On the other hand Barry and I had a huge battle out on the track.

Round 1 Barry beat me by less than a second, I could just not get him on the straight.

Round 2 I passed Barry at the top of the hill after he made a mistake.

With 1 all it was down to the last race.

I was starting from 14th barry from 15th.

    Watch the video here

In the second lap I lost my alternator which in turn lost the Power steering and it was so difficult to steer, at first I thought I had lost a tire and slowed.

The race was not won to the last lap. Enjoy.

The surface temp yesterday was nudging 50 deg, so I was carefull not to start off with too high pressureotherwise i would chew the expensive slicks. As the pressure came the car was sticking even better.

Excellent footage parry! Good to see other's incar footage as well.
It looks like a field of varying classes. Is that red/white car that overtook yoy at about 1min50sec a Truimph Dolomite? If so what mechanicals did he have?

Just saw the wakefield 300 featured on speed week as I was chanel surfing today.
They didn't feature the pugs too much but I saw the 205, 206 and 306. Was this the same event that was in Jan?

It's good watching seeing a 205 on tv.
Please let us know next time you compete in a major race.

    Default Racing rules and regs

Could be a silly question but it is my understanding that certain races require the cars to run orginal engines e.g. targa tasmania you cant enter a 205 with an mi16. But when i was watching speed week there was the Rx7 with a V8 engine. How is this possible and the 205 had an 8 valve.

I am considering an mi16 engine for my 205 but I kinda want to keep it for the purposes of racing in the future so dont want to waste money on an mi16 if i am void from racing in any classes. I might just end up doing track days so it wont matter but I just wanted to look at my options right from the start.

Anybody got any input? I'm sure you do..........

It all depends on the series you compete in. I am currently running in the Motor Racing Australia (MRA) which is not CAMS affiliated. The governerning body is the AASA.

With MRA you run what you bring, I could have a V12 in my 205 if I wanted to. The classes are split by under 2 liter and over 2 liter, then within these classes it is the spilt again by slick or non slick. It encourages people to bring out their race cars and have some fun.

The event televised on speedweek was an Enduro over 300kms and has different classes. The W300 is based on lap time classes. Its a great concept and allows for cars of different performance levels to compete aganist another. So I was running in the 1:14 - 1:17 class for wakefield Park, you are allowed to go over this time by 102% 3 times, if any more you will receive a 8 lap penalty evey time you go under this time.

CAMS on the other hand have very strict rules in their improved poroduction class and chamge often, which makes it expensive to compete in and keep the car current within the rules.

MRA entry fees are also much lower with the sprint races beeing $220 per event and the enduro which has multiple drivers is $600.

My next race is on April the 10th for the second round of the MRA series and the next enduro will be run in early June. Cant wait.
