    Default 2011 State Motorkhana Series

Who in Sydney wants to run some or all of the Rounds this year?

You only need a roadworthy car, a (Cams Affiliated) car club membership licence, a basic CAMS licence and probably $50 entry for a great day. It is best to have the club and Cams licence before you turn up. Just show up on the day at the ground about 9:00am.

The first round is run by the Renault car club 27th February 2011 at Nirimba TAFE (Just drive slowly right down to the back of the TAFE).

You will probably get 6-8 tests run twice on the day (12-16 timed runs). Only the best timed run count, (so if you stuff one test you get another chance).

There are 7 rounds this year 5 on Bitumen at Nirimba TAFE and 2 on dirt at Awaba (Toronto). You can run 1 or all the rounds.

Peugeots are quite good and very competitive at Motorkhanas.

Drive as hard or slow as you like, though I can assure you getting all the tests correct and not hitting any markers is the best for starters. We all started somewhere. Don't be put off if you don't win at your first attempt (and if you do I will be packing up for the day). I drove in my first motorkhana when I was 39!

Search through this great site on motorkhanas http://motorkhana1.webs.com/index.html
(The NSW Motorkhana site is included and contains the calandar of events)

A few Pugs have turned up to the Renault training days in years gone by and have shown promise though gone no further.

Last year there were 2 Pugs and a couple of Renaults regularly turn up.

Maybe some of the Sydney 205 race cars might like to run the series this year .

    CAUTION MOTORKHANAS ARE FUN.

Ok, I might do some tarmac rounds. I'm hoping to finish the car soon.

I should also mention the NSW Motorkhana site, which has lots of info - including the calendar for 2011.

    NSW Motorkhana calendar

Amazingly, despite Sunday being the least likely day for me to not be working, there is only one event where I am rostered on...

    Watch out for those flags

Thanks for the link to the calendar. Some address details would be handy too! All it says is suburb etc. Is it a secret society??

I think this would be a great spectator event to recommend to car club members.

I don't think so - but you could try asking them. There's even a "Contact Us" link on the website.

    Default Motorkhana addresses

    The Nirimba address http://wsi.tafensw.edu.au/Templates/....ashx?fid=8712

    The Awaba address http://www.wac.org.au/downloads/file...20Document.pdf

You are correct motorkhanas are good for spectating and spectating is FREE. You can roll in and out when you like. Most events start at 10:00, they usually stop for lunch about 12:30 and restart again about 1:00, finish 2:00 - 4:00.

It is more fun to enter though and have a go, watch your times improve, compare times with others etc. There are plenty of friendly people there that will help with advice etc .

Don't forget that kids can enter from 12 years old, this is a good way to learn how to control a car.

It is prefered that the kids can basically control a car before entering these State level events, though not mandatory. There are quite few car clubs that hold "club motorkhanas" aimed at teaching basic & pre licence motorkhana driving skills. These motorkhanas are mostly carried out on dirt or grass surfaces. Check with perspective clubs before you join or enquire here or when spectating at the State events. Most car clubs have web sites.
Adults with a road licence are certainly qualified enough to enter State level events 1st up.

Hmmm...looks like a fine place for an aerodrome - or a Defence college.

    Google Maps link

The entrance to the Awaba place is here.

I haven't actually been to either spot.

Nirimba used to be a naval base, it might have been an RAAF airstrip in WW2 (?). It is now just a TAFE location now, nothing to do with the military anymore. The airstrip is long gone (although there is still evidence of a hangar way over the other side of the complex). The pad the motorkhana's are on I think used to be part of the parade ground.
