Default Peugeot with a diesel car at le Mans, it's official!!!!! take 2

With apologies to the original thread, this seems as good a time as any

    PEUGEOT 90X BREAKS COVER

In parallel to its 2010 race programme with the 908 HDi FAP,
Peugeot Sport has been busy designing and developing the
prototype that will defend its colours in 2011.

    Peugeot Sport's principal mission accomplished
Having been kept secret in Peugeot Sport's factory in Vélizy, near
Paris, the team's new endurance challenger – known under the
codename 90X – has been out for its first track test. "Our intention
was to take it out onto a track before the end of the year," says
Peugeot Sport Director Olivier Quesnel. "I am pleased to report that
we have now done that. Even so, there is still a long way to go and a
considerable amount of work to be done as we prepare for 2011."

    The 90X's technical characteristics
The 90X complies with the ACO's 2011 regulations, and notably
incorporates a shark fin appendix on the engine cover. This new
feature is designed to prevent the car from going airborne in the case
of a high-speed spin. As it did for the 908 HDi FAP, Peugeot Sport has
opted for a closed cockpit, while the car meets the mandatory 900kg
    weight requirement.
"We are still exploring several options with regard to the engine and
technology we will use," points out Bruno Famin, the Technical
Director of Peugeot Sport. "Work on the engine's development is
ongoing. Endurance racing is a proving ground that provides us with
an opportunity to showcase all the brand's technologies."

    Vélizy, October 30, 2010
Additionally, the last round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup is next weekend (5-7 November), in Zuhai, China.

The 908s have 1-2ed the first two rounds, so here's hoping they'll do the clean sweep.

There seems to be a few aero changes. Most notable is the air inlet over the top of the cabin.

Well yes - I reckon the new scoop is to compensate for inlet ducting that's probably covered (or otherwise disturbing the inlet airflow) by the new dorsal fin at the back.

Official presentation of the proto, the 9 drivers and the program scheduled for 3rd of february in Paris

Normally program should be full ILMC(Intercontinental Le Mans Cup)

About the drivers, most of last year's crews should be kept, even if there's a small doubt for Simon Pagenaud(more than involved in Highcroft Honda's V6 engine developpment)

Edit: also ORECA's Hughes de Chaunac should announce his team program by end of january, and should keep on with Peugeot(remains to be seen if with 908 or 90X or something else)

Drivers of season will be Nicolas Lapierre and Loïc Duval(3rd driver for Le Mans remain to be announced)

Start at the 12h of Sebring, where we should have two "90Xs" and the 908...

Hey wake-up !!!! First round of 2011 ILMC is this week in Florida(12 hours of Sebring)and the crews are already running today on track(private free practice) !!!

    http://scoring.americanlemans.com/scoring.php

You also have pics on http://www.americanlemans.com/ and http://www.motorsport.com/#/filter/a...llery?s=2&ft=1

What a busy track it was(about 50 cars is not nothing)
    Note already several red flags...

Today is scheduled two hours of testing...

The 908 is on pole - after just one flying lap from Stéphane Sarrazin.

The two pugs have once again split the two Audi R15+ cars, with the No.1 Audi of Bernhard/Dumas/Rockenfeller starting next to the Pug and Wurz/Gene/Davidson starting on the 2nd row alongside the other Audi of Capello/Kristensen/McNish.

The Oreca 908 of Lapierre/Duval/Panis is in 5th spot on the grid.

    Qualifying results

Under the Sebring rules I think you are allowed a total of 3 flying laps in which to qualify.

The race is underway in approx 12 hours (10:15am on Saturday local time in Sebring, Florida)

The ORECA 908 HDI-FAP won! Followed by the highcroft acura entry and they Peugeot factory 908. The last two spots of the top 5 were filled out by audi with the R15+.

It seems peugeot are quite pleased with the result given that it is the first time the new pug has been in a race. Lets hope they can improve on this next race.

Next sunday is scheduled the official Le Mans Test Day with all or most of the 50+ crews who will take part to the big race

Chronos won't be really interesting, as programs are free and most teams won't work for the same thing(some will work on tyres, on set-up, on aeroynamics, on drivers if they are new to endurance racing, etc)

But we will have for sure many pictures and videos of the cars to watch for the occasion, what a pleasure that will be

More interesting, next month(9th may)will be the 2nd race of 2011 ILMC, the 1000km of Spa in Belgium...60 crews on the entrylist

Hey !!!! I remind you this week-end is the 1000km of Spa ILMC race !!!
Nobody is interested in endurance racing among the forumists ???

OK, Peugeot completely failed qualifying practice because they aimed to go out late and a crash stopped the practice before official end so the three AUDIs are 1-2-3(they got out early on circuit), the ORECA-Matmut 908 is 4...then the 908 #7 is 13, the 908 #9 is 18 and the 908 #8 is...50

Very difficult debut it'll be for Peugeot-Sport

Anyway, race to follow from 1.00pm live on http://www.peugeot-sport.com and also a live streaming on http://www.race-rally.be/ (official site of the Spa Francorchamps 1000km race)

    Default Le Mans

I just love LeMans. It is a massive challenge for machine (and man) and is somewhat of an anachronism in the modern age of 10 second news grabs. In a way it is like test cricket, as the result can ebb and flow between the competing teams as conditions and mechanical/human fatigue reveal themselves unexpectedly. It comes at just the right time of year for me. I'm up to my armpits writing reports on 175 students.
Every time I need a break I get an update!

    Just loving it!

    Cheers,

    David

PS. Thanks Pugster for your continuing interest in the series and keeping this forum on your play-list.
    Well done!

PPS. Surely Peugeot will have a better run of reliability THIS YEAR

The qualifying practice has just come to an end a few minutes ago...pole for the 908 #7 thanks to Anthony Davidson with a brilliant 1'31"700 !!!!
The 908 #8 will start 3rd tomorrow(at 12.00)because Stéphane Sarrazin met too much traffic(he was hampered when his first splits were even lightly better than those of Ant)
