    Default Fisi loses his licence

    FISI LOSES ROAD LICENCE
    Last Updated: Monday, 21, November, 2005, 13:56

Giancarlo Fisichella has had his driving licence confiscated for a speeding offence, according to Italian news agency ANSA.

The Renault star was stopped by police early on Sunday morning after being clocked at 148kph in a 60kph zone on the outskirts of his native Rome.

The timing of the incident was unfortunate, to say the least, as last week Fisichella wrote a front-page article for Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport warning youngsters of the dangers of ‘street racing’ after a 16-year-old was killed in a high-speed crash in Rome.

The Italian explained that he was rushing to the bedside of his fever-stricken son, but took full responsibility for his actions.

“I was rushing back home because our babysitter had called myself and my wife to inform us that our son had a high fever,” he said.

“I apologise and I am ready to pay. I know that I made a mistake.

“However, my commitment to road safety remains strong.”

Oh well, at least he still has the luxury of racing an F1 car around the world's best circuits...

So he's "committed to road safety" as long as it doesn't apply to him

    Reminds me Jimmy Dean.

James Dean had just finished shooting the film Giant and they asked him to do highway safety ad. Message was all about driving carefully and not speed. James last public words were on that TV ad: "The life you will save might be mine".

He died soon after that TV spot shooting when he collided young students Ford Tudor which was crossing the highway where Jimmy was speeding with his Porsche.

I am glad Fisi only lost his license.

F1 driver Mike Hawthorn lost his life soon after he won the WDC in 1958 for Ferrari. He had just announced his retirement from the sport too, at the very young age of 29.

Yes and poor old Rob Walker had the misfortune of seeing it happen from his 300SL.
