The only interest left is the Gronholm vs. Solberg battle to claim P2 in the WDC, should be interesting.

Let's see how McRae goes in the Skoda too.

Thanks to deep pockets he has a ride with Subaru for next year.
Murray : And there are flames coming from the back of Prost's car as he enters the swimming pool!
James Hunt: Well that should put them out then!

Yeh he has a 2 year contract, at least.

A podium in Japan, he has shown some pace in some stages over the year. Crashed a few times, but that's what you'd expect from a rookie. At least he has shown some speed, the consistancy will come with experience.

Overall he's done ok, but nothing too spectacular, can't see him being a World Champion. He's done very well for Australia though, congrats to him.

It will be a fun weekend.

A mate of mine is in the local Subaru club and organised 2 places in the "subaru tour" for the whole weekend.
You get a seat on the coach and transport to all the stages where you are allowed to view the action from areas set aside for media only Then there's the hospitality as well.

    Excellent!

It all started last night when we got to meet Solberg, Atkinson, Mills etc from the WRC team and then Crocker, Herridge etc from the ARC team.

Now I would have preferred to be in the same room as Gronholm etc but it's not often you get to meet world champions, shake their hand and have a friendly chat.

Also got all members of both teams to autograph various flags and posters. Will be worth millions in 200 years time!

Start of rally tonight, all day tomorrow and Saturday then most of Sunday as well.

I call setting 3 fastest times in Japan, including the longest stage all year, and leading the rally after 4 stages pretty speccy for a rookie...

I'll second that. Plus in Finland, even though Chris had a bit of trouble keeping the car on the road, when he did manage to complete a stage he set quite a few stage times faster than Solberg.

I agree on Chris Atkinson, he is definitely working on the theory that it is easier to tidy up speed than speed up tidyness (quote from someone in F1 in the 50s I think)

Well like I said, he has shown some pace over a few stages this year, but overall, taking into account every other stage on every other rally besides Japan, he hasn't been outstanding. It may have been that those conditions in those Japanese stages were the best at the time when Chris was on the road.

You can't really rate a guy over a few stages on a particularly rally.

He has done a solid job though which is good for a rookie.

Top effort that - I just hope he doesnt have any mechanical dramas or loose concentration and go sliding off road!

He's made it through SS5, but his lead had decreased to 10.5 over Petter.

Lost a load of time in SS6. Anyone know why? (apart from trying too hard!)

So I guess Solberg has a pretty good chance at taking second in the championship
