    Default Kharnacross requirements?

    With a reliable thing, why not find some silly events I can play in.

    An upcoming Kharnacross at Awaba (end of the month) looks like it works with the schedule.

    As always, I'm confused working out what what is required.

    The sup regs haven't been released for the event yet, but looking at the last events regs it gives me a bit of an idea of what to expect.

    More or less to comply with;
    -Car to Schedule A and Group 4H
    -Clothing to Schedule D
    -And extinguisher to Schedule H.

    Schedule A and Group 4H?

    http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/AutoT...-4H-2018-3.pdf

    Advertisement

    Indicates that if it's registered, it just needs a lap-sash seatbelt, and 4H goes on to say it needs race numbers.

    Schedule D
    http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/Gener...20D-2018-2.pdf

    Ok, a helmet, ankle to wrist clothing, shoes and no nylon please.

    Schedule H
    http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/Gener...20H-2018-2.pdf

    Right now I'm confused. It doesn't mention anything about Motorkharnas or Kharnacross. Do I just assume that "it is" and off road event and fit a 900g min required extinguisher in each reach of the driver etc?

    Either-way as it stands I need a road registered car, with a seatbelt, a helmet, ankle to wrist clothing, shoes, some numbers on my car and I'm assuming an extinguisher.

    Note in all that it doesn't say anything about bonnet pins, battery triangles or battery isolators which I assumed I would require.

    What have I missed?

    If you go to the NSW motorkhana website News there will be info on Khanacrosses as well.
    Most of the info you need should be there.

    Khanacross is under Autotest regs I would think.Just need extinguisher, helmet and proper clothes. No need for bonnet pins battery isolators etc. Awaba is a lot of fun, continuous left-right turns, mainly banked, gravel.

    Look out for the fire extinguisher. Try to find the main tank date on the neck or base. It needs to be no more than 3 years old.
    You will also need a bracket made of metal, that holds it securely, not just tek-screwed to some carpet.

    Yes that link KB is what led me down the Schedule A / Group 4H rabbit hole,

    Graham, Schedule H doesn't list "autotest" nor Motorkhana no Khanacross which is where I got lost. It lists as groups;

    -Speed, Drifting
    -Off Road
    -Special Stage Rally / Rally Sprint S2
    -Rally Spring S1
    -Race
    -Electric Vehicles

    And starts with, everything will have an extinguisher except non-speed events (unless otherwise listed in the sup regs). Aren't Autotests (Motorkhana / Khanacross) non-speed event, hence the ability to use L2S licenses?

    The table in Schedule H (H1) has different capacities depending on the event. I suppose I'll just wait for the Sub regs and then contact the organiser.

    Yes the place looks like fun. Some of the observers at work have worked there and they speak volumes of support for the Club that run and look after the place.

    Ah! The missing link

    http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/AutoT...0Edition/AT03-...

    Turns out the current regs are from 2017. Re-reading the header of the most recent WAC (Westlakes Auto Club) sup regs I found, I see it now makes mention of the policy documents it's complying with.

    This doc talks about extinguishers, yes secured as it the case in Schedule H, and yes at 900g. And as the other concerns aren't listed (bonnet pins, battery isolation) I don't need them.

    Woo Hoo.

    I can't remember what it was. I do remember it being a tad arrogant so I corrected.

    But either way. Come play everyone.

    Oh I worked out if you have taken your seats out, gutted your doors etc you get bumped into Category MP, which is just a production based special.

    http://docs.cams.com.au/Regulations/...lations_v2.pdf

    Good because I don't want to put he seats back in.

    Cams is annoying. Actually no. Their website is terrible. It feels like there are bits and pieces all over the place. I only found out about the NSW variant to the national rules by a passing comment on another thread.

    Ah, well I don't think our website is any better.

    But yes, I'm certainly experiencing a lot of "word of mouth" in effort to get sorted.

    Ok, this was amazing.

    https://youtu.be/T3JKmWLUtPo

    Forgive how slow I was going, I barely know the direction of the circuit, which shouldn't have been that hard, bollards ensured you couldn't go the wrong way.

    STILL! Khanacross's are the best thing ever.

    The silly ol' pos was a riot. Steering via the accelerator was easily achievable. Lifting off had it spinning around and stomping it had it, well, there was a bit of one wheel spin but the ground was interesting enough to have it hook in eventually.

    Did I tell you how much fun Khanacrosses are?

    The Westlake Auto Club have this 4km facility that they cut up as needs be, being strategic with bollards they ruin or create apexes that makes it infinity interesting it would seem. There is quite a lot of altitude change and there are sections of long banked sweeping corners.

    Having said all that you would be mostly in 2rd gear all day just banging of the limiter if you were brave enough to get there.

    I'll re calculate my thoughts and come back later but holy crap. Dirt is the best

    Oh some points. (I was the fastest <1300cc heheh)

    Oh! And the scrutineers where not all but happy.

    Things that they didn't care about;

    -Bucket seat with standard lap sash (thought that might have been a thing, if so I could have swapped the seats around and left the passenger out. but it wasn't so all good.
    -No bumpers (didn't say a thing)
    -No rear seats (all ok)
    -No rear trim (all ok*)

    Things they cared about;

    -No tow points clearly marked. Not a silly idea to attach some I suppose.
    -* Because the seats where out, they wanted some kind of shield between the boot and the cabin as the petrol tank was visible from the cabin (removed the carpet of course. I might take this time to check over the requirements from Schedule A/B and find out what material it should be made off. If done correctly it might even provide a bit of extra rigidity? Not that I could measure that. Unsure what sort of protection the thing cardboard backing would have provided but they confess that would have been acceptable had I had left it.
    -And they wanted mud flaps on the drive wheels.

    They gave me a pass however and all was ok, It will need to be corrected for the next one they claimed.

    So there ya go.

    So to update the list of requirements for other Bowie's to have a smoooth sail on the day past scrutineering, assuming it's rego'd to begin with;

    -Supercheap fire extinguisher
    -Helmet
    -Wear Jeans, a long sleeve shirt and shoes
    -Mud flaps
    -If your tank is exposed, from the boot floor, leave your rear seat in.

    It really is that easy, and it's a great deal of fun. Lets all go racing everyone

    Can't you just leave the back rest of the rear seat in? Would that pass muster?

    Have you weighed the thing after all these mods? Curious to see where it stands.

    A little different, but my 205 SI is 100 Kilo's lighter after being stripped as compared to Apis complete SI.
    I did the easy stuff, central locking, interior parts, aircon and heater unit ect, i would guess another 15-20 KGs could be lost with a bit more commitment.

    Yes you could just leave the back cushion in and all would be fine.

    I doubt there is that much weight removed to be honest. All the time items are pretty thin / light. But I'll take it to the weight bridge tomorrow at work and see, I've been meaning to do it out of curiosity.

    100kg is a good effort for that easy stuff.

    Ah, but where in any of the regs does it say that?

    Never the less, Scrutineer is God. if they want mud flaps, you go find mud flaps.

    The next event I can enter down there isn't until November so I have a bit of time to add the stuff they want to it either way.

    Rus, thank you for the invitation. I won't annoy you until I'm proper serious however, but I appreciate the offer.
