Verstappen who was at the top of the time table put the car into a fence near the end of the second session. Palmer also had another off.

and Palmer, looks like the same corner. Admittedly very tight part of the track. I have read a claim that it is the tightest spot on any F1 track

    Default Qualifying results

Hamilton on pole, Bottas seconds, Raikkonen, followed by Vettel in fourth. Verstappen was 5th and Daniel was 10th. Daniel hit the wall during qualifying and caused a red flag.

Hamilton was over a second ahead of the third place Ferrari and some 4/10 ths ahead of his team mate.

Palmer did not participate due to an engine fire in FP3

Stroll qualified ahead of Massa, which I think might be a first.

Both McLarens with engine related penalties (35 & 40 grid places), should be enough to put them at the rear of the grid

Well well, Ricciardo won at Baku, who would have believed that would happen before the race. Due to his problems in qualifying, he had one set of supersofts on hand for the second part of the race, this and the attrition rate/other problems of competitors helped his own strong performance with a great result.

    1/ Ricciardo
    2/ Bottas
    3/ Stroll
    4/ Vettel
    5/ Hamilton

Bottas and Raikkonen had a coming together side by side around one of the corners on the first lap. Kimi was on the outside of Bottas left enough room, but Bottas bounced off the inside kerb enough not to be able to control the car and hit Raikkonen. Bottas got a flat tyre and damaged wing, having to pit and ended up one lap down. Later during a safety car he had the opportunity to unlap himself and fight to finish second. Kimi's car was damaged, contributing to the on track debris from time to time as bits flew off the car.

Verstappen destroyed another engine and failed to finish, whilst trying to pass Perez into third place..

Sainz spun on the first lap, dropping to rear of field.

Massa's car failed. Looked like it was vibrating widly on the straights.

Hulkenberg hit the wall and retired.
Stroll drove strongly, kept out of trouble and finished third, Bottas passing him just before the flag.

During the red flag stoppage, Raikkonen's and Perez's cars were worked on. Both later received stop go penalty. In the end Raikkonen ended up DNF.

There were number of safety cars and red flag due to debris on the track.

During one of the safety cars, Vettel ran into the rear of Hamilton, accused Hamilton of break testing him, lost the plot, pulled beside Hamilton and drove into him.

Force India cars were performing strongly, until they ran into each other and Perez was forced out.

Later Hamilton had to pit stop to fix the removable headrest beside the drivers helmet which was threatening to fly away. At about the same time Vettel got 10 sec stop-go penalty for dangerous driving. Vettel came out of the pits just ahead of Hamilton and finished the race ahead of him.

If Vettel had exercised bit more self control he could have won the race without the penalty. The Italian media are going to crucify him. It will be interesting if Hamilton just beats him to the title, would be Karma.

The safety car caused problems with tyre temperatures as it was travelling too slow for the cars to keep the tyre temperatures up.

Seven cars failed to finish, which included both Renaults.

Craziest race I've ever seen! Hulkenberg in the Renault was doing really well until he smacked the wall.....

    Unbelivable race.

Seb showed us his true colours again. Throwing all available toys out of his pram once again due to his own stuff up. Then failed to lift up his skit to find his nuts and own up. Guilty as sin was written all over his face once again.

Riccardo came from last place after lap 6 or so due to brake ducting being blocked and eneded up winnine thanks to Seb.

Great to see the williams and force India right up there!

Just now, that would mean supporting S. Vettel, which could be frowned on a bit.

i have been watching F1 for decades. Whilst some of the greats of F1, senna/prost/schumacher and others could be accused of creating accidents, i never recall a driver deliberately using his car as a weapon on the track. Vettel should be stripped of a world title.

He is very lucky with the minor penalty. If he had broken Hamilton's front suspension and not his own, things might have been more serious.

It also an odd situation where both the winner and the second place, were both either last or close to last at some point in the race. Stroll was so pleased to come 3rd that he didn't even seem to notice that he was pipped for 2nd by not concentrating.

I don't know what everyone is going on about! It was just a racing incident......F1 cars are constantly biffing each other's wheels.

Schumacher repeatedly forced other drivers off the track when he was behind and wanted to pass....their choices were move or get hit. Hamilton looked like he lifted off and caught Vettel unawares when they were behind the safety car, and Vettel ran into him. His response was a reflex action and he was given a penalty.....storm in a teacup in my opinion. I wonder if it would be blown up as much if 'Our Lewis ' hadn't been involved?
