    Default F1 - Monaco practice

Mr Stroll is finding money alone is not enough. F1 and Monaco in particular can be pretty tough.

I initially posted this in the humour column by mistake,(must be getting old) my intention was not to be that hard on Mr Stroll although I can see the humour in the slip up.

Both Mercedes drivers did ok in the first session, but went backwards in the second and both were well off the pace. Vettel is on the money and Daniel found some speed in the second session. Yesterdays practice results:-

Have a look at 1:39 + how close the inside front on the Red Bull car comes to the armco, if it didn't slightly kiss it, it must have been almighty close.

By jingo that Stroll lad is making a bit of a hash of it.
Crashed his car, then got 'em muttering about him because he said he mucked up the same corner when practising the corner on his PlayStation. We were having a bit of a laugh about that.

I don't know, Stroll's off in that corner looked a lot like lack of grip due to dirty road surface not overcooking it. I don't know, I wasn't there haha.
He should have the old P racing plate on his car honestly as he is a liability to every other car out there, quite a danger as he has proved time and again with his offs. If he has an off within range of a fast car, he will take them with him

Would wrapping a stack of Euro bills to the tyres help with the traction?

I was interested to see in those slow motion shots of cars kissing the barrier and going over the bumps, how the whole tyre wobbles back and forth when it gets in the air.

    Practice 3 Saturday am

    1/ Vettel 1:12.395
    2/ Raikkonen +.345
    3/ Bottas +0.435
    4/ Verstappen +0.545
    5/ Hamilton +0.835
    6/ Ricciardo +0.997
    ....
17/ Stroll - 2.280 seconds off the pace and over .5 seconds behind Massa

Both Hamilton and Ricciardo seem to be struggling for pace. they have couple of hours to find it before qualifying

Ocon put it in the fence towards the end the of the session bringing out the virtual safety car. Looks like he clipped one of those inside walls little too hard and broke the steering arm, then into the barriers as a passenger.

    Default Qualifying results

    Qualifying results

    1/ Raikkonen 1:12.178
    2/ Vettel +0.043
    3/ Bottas +0.045
    4/ Verstappen +0.318
    5/ Ricciardo +0.820

Unbelievably tight between the top three with only .045 separating them and only 0.002 between second and third. Ricciardo was .5 s behind his team mate and .82 s of the pace. Bottas' 3rd was his best result at Monaco to date, tenth being his previous best here.

Hamilton failed to make Q3. He was struggling. At one stage he complained of overheating the rear tyres. Had some slides and at least one near call.

Button on the other hand makes Q3.

Vandoorne made the same error in Q2 as Ocon did in P3 and clipped the inside barrier with front wheel breaking the steering arm at the swimming pool.

Ocon, Palmer, Stroll, Wehrlein and Ericsson eliminated in Q1
