    Default F1 - Spain - Spoiler

Spannish round of the F1 is on this weekend. One hour free to air delayed version is on late Monday night on Channel One.

    Practice 1

    1/ Hamilton 1:21.521
    2/ Bottas 1:21.550 +0.029
    3/ Raikkonen 1:22.456 +0.935
    4/ Vettel 1:22.600 +1.079
    5/ Verstappen 1:22.706 +1.185
    6/ Ricciardo 1:23.084 +1.563

    Practice 2

    1/ Hamilton 1:20.802
    2/ Bottas 1:20.892 +0.090
    3/ Raikkonen 1:21.112 +0.310
    4/ Vettel 1:21.220 +0.418
    5/ Verstappen 1:21.438 +0.636
    6/ Ricciardo 1:21.585 +0.783
    7/ Hulkenberg - Renault
    8/ Palmer - Renault

The top 6 places for both practice sessions was the same, but the gaps closed to under .5 s for the first four cars and Bottas was only a whisker from Hamilton's time.

Renaults showed some promise in the second session coming in 7th and 8th.

Alonso had a horrid time with another engine failure.

Qualifying and start is critical again as the track is not the easiest to pass on. Bottas nailed the start to perfection at the last round, so if he can do the same it could be very interesting into the first corner.

    Qualifying results

    1/ Hamilton
    2/ Vettel
    3/ Bottas
    4/ Raikkonen

Less than .3 seconds separating the first four qualifiers, could this turn into a race, we'll see.

Verstappen and Ricciardo filling in the third row as expected.

Alonso in 7th, that is a top job.

    Renaults in 13th and 17th

Stroll is only 9 places behind his team mate, MAssa. Needs to do much better. Money got him the drive, will it keep it for him?

I manged to catch the end of Q1. or was it Q2? It was actually interesting. I hadn't realised the changes the modern changes re tyres / fuel that put limits on their qualifying, Nor even the shoot out style of qualifying.

And I must say the coverage with all the in dash cameras and multiple views and quick edits made watching it very good. like catching every moment of overstear and being able to reply it to punters like me.

    Would watch again.

Mercedes were forced to change to an old power unit to Bottas' car Friday/Saturday due to a water leak. They used one of their two exemptions to break the curfew on Saturday night to effect the change. The water leak will be repaired in the damaged engine and it will be used again in future race.

The distance to the first corner is shorter in Barcelona to what it was in Russia, making it more difficult for Bottas to repeat his slingshot from third to lead by a lightning start like he did in Russia.

Verstappen/Raikkonen/Bottas accident, first lap. Bottas ran into back of Raikkonen, causing him to run into Verstappen. Both Verstappen and Raikkonen out. Should make it easier for Daniel

L 35 - Massa and Vandoorne crash in turn 1, Vandoorne out with broken suspension.

L 40 - Bottas stopped with smoke pouring from his engine.

That leaves the top three positions on L 42 as:-

    1/ Vettel
    2/ Hamilton
    3/ Ricciardo

L44 - Hamilton passes Vettel. Hamilton is on softer tyres than Vettel, but will they last.

    and the winner is

    Hamilton

    2/ Vettel +3.490 s

    3/ Ricciardo +75.820

Red Bull have some work to do still

The only three cars to finish on the lead lap and Mr Stroll was the last finisher in 16th, two laps down from the leaders.

What a great race! Great drives from both Lewis and Seb. Seb made a big move on Bottas into turn 1. Very ballsy.

Bottas failure has been attributed to turbo failure.

Alonso qualified 5th (2nd row) for the race on his 4 lap qualifying run in the "fast nine".
