that looks like a hoot, but for me, it raises a conundrum...

how does a AE86 2l toyota win a race and a GTHO ford be somewhere back in the field??

He looks like he's fairly confident in the cockpit, I can't speak for the Falcon.

Around Adelaide i can totally see why the AE86 would win, Imagine Muscling the falcon around with concrete on both sides, while fun.... not thanks i'd rather the AE86!

    "Alexander"
The Toyota is light, and it stops and turns.

The GTHO is more like standard, or mild. Where as the Touring Car Masters are not anything like the days when they raced. And when they get together in turn#3 they destroy each other.

I've been watching a bunch of them actually. The racing up the front is fantastic.

The lad in the Civic is Jordan Cox, check this out at Bathurst

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N81cEqZEDVQ

He could make a Falcon LTD look fast I reckon.

But back to the class, the racing is great!

His performance against the turbo Ae86 is amazing given it only revs to 8800rpm and the weights of both cars are not dissimilar. Haven't discussed gearbox setups with either. The Honda runs 0 rear camber so the rear slides which they were saying gives the front more grip.

It is a state based series with a one off Nationals round each year. There are two stand alone events Bathurst and this year Clipsal for the first time. The dwindling of the V8utes opened the door for the IPRA to get in to Clipsal.
I run a 206gti180 with a standard engine in SA, and was involved coordinating of track at the Clipsal event as I'm on the SA IPRA committee.

Do you mind me asking what is the financial commitment to competing at the state level.

Yearly commitment of 6-8 tyres between $300 and $600 each
    Entry 4 rounds @ $300ish
    Fuel, fluids and

Car price differs between states and how competitive you want to be.
Cars start at $10k if you want to buy one.
Building the car is half the fun for me.
Also reliability can get you trophies when the front runners over stress and break engines etc regularly
Rumours locally are in the bigger states U2L are a $50k spend and O2L are >$100k to be near the front of pack.
But rumours abound as it isn't a parity category.

I'm pretty sure I saw the Cox's selling a DC2R Integra last year for $25k. As used for the previous U2L Bathurst lap record. It might be the one that Graeme was driving in Adelaide.
As much as I like my 206, I should have bought that...

    Thanks for those numbers Brett. So;

    $3000~ = Tyres
    $1600~ = Event entries
$2000~ = Consumables, pads, oils, filters etc etc

Lets just call it $8k a year. Assuming you have probably spent that again on a car / getting one ready before you start. And at that cash you would be there for the experience and not bragging rights.

    Yeah fair enough.

My heart warms when I see cheap Yaris's and Magna's deep in the field. Gah looks like so much fun.

    DVR, The cams rules limit cray cray weight reduction;

    http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/Race/...-3J-2017-1.pdf

    17.5 MINIMUM RACING WEIGHTS:
Where the engine block and/or head has been replaced by one of a different design to that fitted as standard equipment for the model concerned, the following scale of minimum weights shall apply. For naturally-aspirated front wheel drive vehicles, based on the swept volume of the engine:

    Up to 1400cc 875kg
    1400 to 1600cc 965kg
    1601 to 2000cc 1045kg
    2001 to 3000cc 1175kg
    3001 to 4000cc 1285kg
    4001 to 6000cc 1405kg

For rear-wheel drive, add 50kg; for four-wheel drive 90kg. In consideration of minimum racing weights, all supercharged vehicles of or above 1200cc swept volume, of actual swept volume shall be treated as having a swept capacity of 2001 to 3000cc, those below 1200cc shall be treated as 1601 to 2000cc vehicles.

So I reckon the civic would be 1045kg

The under 1400cc could be fun. 875kg, with something powered by a clio K4M. Just saying.. You would still be in Class D however which is 0-1600cc, but minus 100kg.. Nom Nom Nom

Interestingly (for me anyway) tyre size is also controlled in relation to CC. Ah see pg13, item 11 for that. But just quickly 15x7" wide max for 0-3000cc and 15x8" for 3001-6000cc, (in group 3Ja cars before 1986) or *x8" for 0-3000cc and *x9" for 3001-6000cc cars (in 3Jb, cars after 1986)

    The rules are quite interesting actually. It reads as if they don't want ppl to fsk around to much, i.e keep it cheap. I.e;

#3.1, no strengthening other then a roll cage
#3.9, no aero outside of a basic front skirt and rear wing
#3.16, you can bin your elec windows with lighter manual ones (cant find anything about needing to have windows actually)
#3.20, modify the floor plan only for a drivers seat

#4.2, any non original engine must be from family (no GM LS6's in datos) and in the same orientation, and with the same no of cylinders
#4.4, no cray cray custom cross members for cray engine

#8.1, can use an autogearbox, everything else must be a H, ie no $$$ sequential boxes. but you can have what ever replacement gearbox you like as long as it only has 5 forward speeds
#8.4, original sus mounting points must be retained. etc etc

So you can see how they have tried to make easy I suppose.

Someone built a, Hmmmm, R10s, with a 140hp K4j, 15x7" wheels weighing 875kg (+50kg RWD penalty) then we can all cheer you on I mean your roll cage is going to add that weight anyway..

Gah yeah it could be 700kg.

Yeah, could be any weight, assuming the block is the correct one for the car (1.6 original?) then you can do anything to the engine after that and reduce weight. Remember it's still original glass and dash.
Would probably be under 950kg, but not much.

it would appear that Jordan Cox is indeed quite a handy driver, and outstanding passing manoeuvres are his mainstay! most impressive, and you have to agree with Mistareno's observation that the car seems very well sorted. speaking as someone who knows jack ship about racing...

    anyway...

I think theres also concessions for older cars (pre 87) to run a lighter weight. Our 87 race car 'may' slip into this rule when and if we get into IPRA.
