Latavala had engine overheating and brake problems. The engine overheating was resolved during the rally, but not before critical times was lost.

The three Hyundais of Sordo/Neiville/Paddon all suffered from blocked fuel filter problems on Friday. The penalty was later removed.

Ogier won his first special stage on SS12.

Three stages were cancelled after transport and support vehicles were caught in traffic caused by non rally related accident. Transporters and support staff only arrived 30 minutes before the start of teh stage

Meeke drove superbly, so well in fact that not only did he leave the road and enter a crowded car park via a non entrance on the last stage, he had enough time to drive around the car park looking for a way back onto the road, regain it and still win the rally!

There are some highlights here, for those with computers.....

At the end of the SS18 Meeke had 37.2 second lead, at the end of the next stage, the final stage his win margin was down to 13.8 after the spin and the adveture.

In Monte Carlo he was running second when he was involved in a traffic accident in a transport section, forcing retirement.

In Sweden he had a pre-rally practice accident. Finished the rally in 4th.

The footage from the car park is ...... well ...

They do say that you can't win the rally on a power stage, but you sure can lose it on one

Well. apparently it's not over. Scrutineers are apparently checking out Ogiers gearbox after Mexico. Don't know why yet.

    Edit

Apparently the officials looked at five of the cars, which include Ogiers Ford and Chris Meeke Citroen. They decided to examine Ogiers gearbox further in Europe.

Tommi Makinen and number of Toyota team staff are stuck in Mexico. Many of the staff were supposed to be on a flight out on Sunday, but at this stage they don't know when they will be able to leave. Tommi is not happy.

    thanks Troy.
mistake aside it is good to see someone again out-driving Ogier, rather than simply benefited from a (rare) mechanical problem.
that said, and just as FD pointed out last year, if Ogier is always up there, and there is a random round robin of other drivers who put in a great result in any particular race, he still wins.

Apparently Ogier's gearbox is suspected of being underweight. The decision of the matter could be some time coming, possibly by the next round. If Ogier is found to be in breach of the rules, the penalty could range from time penalty to exclusion from Mexico results.

Ogier has been cleared. The suspect gearbox was found to be compliant after further inquiries.
