Default WRC - Hot rumour re Ford to return to WRC

Currently M-Sport, a private team is waiving the flag for Ford in WRC. Team principal Malcolm Wilson is doing his all to sign up Ogier for his team. He is also working to get Ford back into competition as a factory team as well as Red Bull in order to be able to secure Ogier.

Other rumour suggest that Toyota are close to signing up Latvala, if true, that is another seat not available, reducing the viable options for seats.

The other hot rumour is for Ogier to go with Citroen.

Funny, but they just won the WRC2 drivers title and got second, third and fourth places in the WRC drivers and second in the WRC manufacturers championship.

They also signed up their drivers early in September so nothing to monger about.

Looks like I wasn't paying enough attention either, yes that's correct, Mikkelsen got third.

this is just an idle thought, but boy it is going to be interesting to see how the new team and 3 of the top drivers suddenly dispersing to other teams, will affect race results. one has to feel for the VW drivers - ogier in particular - for the sudden withdrawal of VW, but i reckon it is, oddly, a great outcome for WRC.

At least three teams are keen for Ogier's services, Citroen, Ford and Toyota. Ogier on the other hand wants to test drive the 2017 cars before he commits, so everybody else is on hold until Ogier decides. Apparently Ogier is not on good terms with the Citroen Team manager, so perhaps Citroen is not in box seat to get his services.

Malcolm Wilson (Ford) is working hard to get Ogier to his team. Wilson is not interested in Latvala's service.

Makinen has stated the obvious, that his order of preference is Ogier, Latavala then Mikkelsen and he is waiting to hear from Japan. I assume the issue is, is Japan prepared to pay what it takes to get Ogier to Toyota.

My guess is that Ogier is going to want a competitive car and a pretty pay packet.

Mikkelsen is the one quietly lurking in that background waiting for chips to fall in place.

I heard a rumour from a scrutineer at Rally Australia that Red Bull would rename the VW team and run the cars that have been prepared by VW already.

Thats interesteing. As I understand, the new 2017 regs mean new cars.

Wikipedia states the following "Despite extensive testing, Volkswagen formally cancelled the development of the car in November 2016 with their withdrawal from the sport"
I assume the car would be ready to very to close to being and further development could be continued at any time..

Edit - just found this -

If Red Bull buys out VW, would be interesting how the driver situation would play out. Also relevant is how many cars they would be prepared to run.

Ogier has drive of the Toyota Yaris WRC on Wednesday in Catalunya Spain. He drove it both black top and gravel surfaces. he found that the Toyota suspension needs much more development, but the car has potential.

Strong rumour have Toyota are offering Ogier 10 million Euro contract for next year. This is rumoured to be 2 - 3 million more than he made at VW this year.

Ogier is set to test the M-Sports new Ford Fiesta WRC this week possibly in Wales

Apparently Citroen are not going to give Ogier the opportunity to drive their new C3 WRC unless he signs with the team.
