The Mercedes team mates qualifying was one of the closest on record for pole.

Kimi edges out Vettel for third place, but Vettel has a three grid place penalty from his first lap accident at the last round and starts 7th.

Max out qualified Daniel into fourth place by small margin. Without the Vettel penalty they would have started from the third row, but the Vettel penalty moves both up one place on the grid, but this means Max is starting from the second row and Daniel from the third

Edit;- I wonder what odds the bookies would give on the Merc drivers taking each other out in the first corner?

lordy me, you would hope that Hamilton and Rosberg could work out a way of enuring NO contact on turn 1 lap 1.
an F1 start is plainly a very fraught event, but when you are two people consistently on P1 and P2, and you are from the same team, how hard can this be??

still, i guess if you thought like that, you wouldnt be in the running for an F1 championship, and would probably be some stupid armchair expert, pontificating on the Net on some car website, eh?! save us from them...
