Default F1 - more driver rumours for 2017

Massa is retiring at the end of 2016

Button is rumoured to be one of the drivers Wliiams wants if they can afford him.

Lance Strollin is after Willaims seat and his father is rumoured to be prepared to drop $30m for the drive.

Bottas is under pressure from Williams to bring $$ to secure the drive. Bottas does have some sponsorship (little over 5 million Euros from long time sponsor) but has no chance of matching the young Strollin dollars.

Nico Hulkenberg (29) has reportedly been signed by Renault on a 2 + 1 year deal. They are actually paying him real money, 5 million first year, 6 the second, 7 the third with additional bonus payments. It is the first time he will drive with a factory team. Force India has confirmed that he is leaving at the end of this year.

There is speculation that an announcement may be forthcoming re Lance Stroll joining Williams after Mexico round of the championship. The reason being Stroll is 17 and Williams sponsor is Martini and there could be difficulties for Williams and the sponsor if the 17 year old was signed up before he turns 18. He turns 18 Saturday week..

Renault boss Frederic Vasseur has indicated that Bottas is a driver they would be interested in but Williams wont release him as they have a contract until 2017.

how funny! an alcohol company sponsorship could clash with an F1 team signing an F1 driver because he is 17! it isnt as if he has to get on the pyss as part of his contract. and what about drivers under 21, given that is the drinking age in the USA?

I have met few Canadians and they have all been nice peoples, so I expect yes, but you haven't set a very high mark for him to pass

Hot on the heels of Williams driver signings is a hot rumour that Renault wanted Bottas for 2017, but Williams did not want to let him go, regardless he will be driving a Renault in 2018. Speculation is that he already has some type of agreement with Renault for 2018. Renault has signed up Hulkenberg on 2+1 year deal, but the remaining position is rumoured to be one year deal only. Time will tell.

Interesting article, claiming Lance Strolls seat to be the most expensive F1 seat ever in F1.

The article is in German, but right click and select translate to English to get the gist of it -

i guess it really helps Williams, but the extent of the bankrolling is a bit nauseating.
anyway, it wont take alot of F1s to show if he can cut it, or not.

    $80 million apparently

Im sure hes going to be quick and have good pace. The crashes he has been involved in have been a lot like Romain G when he was at Lotus.

that's the thing with really high pressure racing, like F1.
my personal feeling is that you could bankroll at least 1 in 4 men to be a top V8 Supercar performer. probably even me!
and you can bankroll and wind tunnel test someone to be F3 champ.

but the pressures of trying to drive an F1 car at speed are so intense, you have to have outstanding talent to drive them well. so the also-rans tend to get involved in alot of crashes as they attempt what is beyond them.

Renault have confirmed that their second driver will be Brit Jolyon Palmer. He has scored one point during the season, but is able to bring sponsor dollars through his father and his business connections. Renault have previously confirmed Nico Hulken berg as the other driver.

Kevin Magnussen moves from Renault to Hass on a 2 + 1 year deal, replacing Esteban Gutierrez.

Romain Grosjean is the other Haas driver.
