Default F1 - Raikkonen contract extended

Ferrari have announced that they have extended Kimi's contract by another 12 months to end of 2017.

Kimi and Sebastian are equal third on 96 points in the drivers championship, behind the dueling Mercedes drivers.

Edit: Raikkonen will be 37 years of age in October.

There was talk of Dan Ricciardo being tempted by Scuderia Ferrari, but he has signed with RB again (smart move, I think) so Kimi deservedly gets another year in his seat.

The two top teams are imploding due to massive egos and poor management, if RB can get a decent/better powerplant (love the Renault....but...) in that chassis, MB and SF will have some serious competition apart from each other.

Yes there has been speculation of Daniel going to Ferrari, but Daniel has said he has had no contact from Ferrari.

I though Daniel had air tight contract with Red Bull until end of next year, if my recollection is right, any buy out of the contract would be expensive

Ferrari have said their drivers work together well and they have no issues from that front. The obvius infrence of Mercedes was left unsai.

Sir Jack Brabham was 40, I believe, in 1966 when he won his third and last F1 Championship in a car he designed and built himself. Age is not the barrier, talent is!

No, but like firont line fighter pilots, F1 pilots are few and far inbetween after 35. One needs lighting reflexes. I havent seen anyone make a new start in F1 at over 40 years of age, yet it has happened, but not in todays environment.

Next years car are changing with aero to olay a much bigger role in the cars so Daniel and Max should have a really good chance.

Honestly surprised to see Kimi still in the seat. 2018 looks to be wide open with a few young guns frothing at the mouth for a drive.

There are plenty of young guns frothing at the mouth. The chances of getting to drive an F1 car are even more remote than the chances of piloting an F18 or an F35. There is an enormous amount of talent we never get to see drive in F1, but that is how the dice rolls, and when you're in and have an established record some teams may feel that you are a better risk than someone without that history.
