Default Renault Works Team to re-enter F1- Lotus Takeover

Renault is reportedly about to finalize a takeover of Lotus F1.
Its a bit odd as Renault offloaded the Lotus team a few years back to concentrate on becoming an engine supplier but with RedBull apparently jumping ship next yearh Renault has obviously had a change of heart.
Lotus has been running Merc Engines this year, so I'm sure Renault will be hoping for some useful data...or an engine to disect...

That'll be the final nail in the coffin for the Renault as Red Bull engine supplier. Renault have not met contractual performance obligations, so red Bull have an out. Red Bull are only interested in top line engine and if they cant secure one, they have said they will leave F1. The hot gossip is for a Mercedes power plant for Red Bull. It would give Merc F1 team a real competitor, but Red Bull is such a strong brand that they cant dismiss it out of hand and Merc have said as much recently.

That may be so but Mercedes supply engines to just about everyone other than Red Bull. How come they're not all at the top, knocking Mercedes off? I think that Renault may have contributed to Red Bull's problems under the current and most stupidly fabricated F1 Regime, but they have not been Red Bull's only problem.

Engine is just one of the key components to make a top team.

    Edit
Many who know much more than I, seem to be of the opinion that Red Bull chassis has improved* to one of the best chassis, if not the best on the grid, if you add to that the most reliable engine with the best power output, my simple deduction is that it is likely they would be a front runner.

*In Hungary Red Bull came 2nd and 3rd outright.

Lotus changed to the Mercedes engine this season..... look at their results. I hope Red Bull enjoy being just as far back in the pack for the next couple of seasons.

By that logic Williams should be at the back of the field also.

We are not talking a lot of hundredths of a second here, are we? Is it the chassis, or the power package? Will Mercedes Red Bull be quicker or slower than Williams? Who's machine will reign supreme?
