    He said it was luck rather than skill that kept him from the Armco.
    On the basis that he made no apparent steering movement and all wheels locked I would agree!
    A big "moment" though!

    Luck always helps

    Not sure how it applies in this situation, but if a car is travelling through a corner and the brakes are locked it will tend to travel in a tangent to the arc. The only control the driver has in this situation is in which part of arc he applies the brakes, thus "selecting" the direction of the tangent he going to travel. It is probably more relevant theory to US style oval racing.
