Default F1 - Renault engines reliability????

Kvjat is the first Renault engined driver to suffer 10 grid place penalty for exceeding the permitted 5 engines for the season this weekend.

Vettel is already on his fifth engine.

Three other drivers from lesser teams are also on their 5th power plant components (eg turbo, MGU)

It will be interesting to see if this is going to become a major issue.

Penalties are a great incentive to make the drive train and engines more reliable.

I'm not sure it contains cost cause of the amount of development work that goes into each component.

Maybe they are just flogging the crap out of the engine by trying to keep up with the superior mercs??

Renault started on the back foot. They probably had no idea how superior the Mercedes drive train was. Remember, it's not just about engines, which Renault have proved they can make. It's the other hurdy gurdy parts of the drive train that caught them out. Seeing how close they were last race Renault have closed the gap somewhat. There's hope for them yet. With two testosterone filled drivers, Mercedes have a bit of liability to overcome, regardless of how well their cars perform.........
Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone............

Red Bullls qualified over a second down from Merc on the fast Monza track. Red Bull qualified 8th and 9th with Vettel outqualifying Daniel R, only just.Would seem the Renault engines are still well down on grunt and any great performances by Daniel R have been dispite of this great handicap.

Both Ferrari's are on their fifth engines going into Singapore round. Looks like there is a good chance both will take ten place penalty before the end of the year for exceeding 5 engines.
