    Default PSA leaves the CAC40

Sad news for the investor relations side of PSA. The CAC40 is the index of 40 companies that is the important index used by institutional investors to have a stake in the French equity market. It comprises the 40 top French companies in capitalisation and PSA has been a member since the creation of the index.
The committee that overlooks these things has replaced PSA, as its capitalisation is now too small with the steep drop in its share price over the last two years.

It probably means that PSA will find it harder to raise new capital from purely financial sources.

That is only a partial list which does however, show PSA's fall from grace. There are 40 securities that make it up of which Total, the oil company has the highest capitalisation. The list prior to PSA's removal is at
    http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAC_40

There is a second index called the Next 20. The technical commitee that oversees the membership of the CAC40, when it considers that a security is unrepresentative of the market, replaces it by one drawn from the Next20. Since the index was formed and set at 1000 in 1987 there have been very few such changes and the removal of PSA, which was an original member, has to be considered a serious judgement.

The Australian equivalent is the ASX100.

    Hi Gerry

Yes I know that is only a partial list, I cut and pasted it from CNN Money the 40 companies were over 3 pages. It was just to high light how bad PSA were doing as you said.
