    Default Maigret

Don't know if this has been already raised, but I thought I'd post this show on 7TWO, as I love looking at Tractions, 203s, 403s and the like.

Perhaps we can list the various models we see. And perhaps any inconsitstencies. I think it was the first show, they used the same truck for every scene

Apparently it was filmed in Bulgaria. It's still a bit odd with very English voices yet everything else seems so French!

I know of three Maigret series and there are others - the French have done three series I think.

The original BBC starred Rupert Davies and was very evocative. He bought the Big Six Traction after the series ended. There was some odd agreement about the series never being repeated and it hasn't been. Very dissapointing doesn't come near it - filmed in Paris in the 1960s at least in part!! It was on ABC TV in the 1960s and I remember it well enough to be frustrated about no repeats.

Then there was a recent British one with Michael Gambon which we haven't seen but which is available.

Then there is a French series starring Bruno Cremer, filmed out of France and the DVDs are available with English subtitles. If this is what you are watching, we found it wonderful in that the French portrayed the French rather than English interpretations - Maigret is, to our eyes, surprisingly blunt and uncommunicative and very much played as he would have been. If you are getting these, that is great. There are few cars and shown repeatedly in different episodes if I recall.

The Maigret showing on 72 is the Michael Gambon one, only 13 episodes made according to Wikipedia. It really feels like an English show set in France.

Was hoping it would have been the earlier Rupert Davies version, early 1960s, in black and white from memory, I have fonder memories of this earlier version that used to be on Channel 2.
