    Default Bio-Diesel Story

Thursday at 8.30pm on SBS on "Insight" there'll be a story on Bio-Diesel called "Cheap as Chips."
The crux of it apparently is to show how they make diesel fuel from recycled cooking oil & what plans the thieving toe rag politicians have to tax it out of existence.

They're always very environmentally concious until they see a fast buck or it affects their mates who have them in their pockets.

Yep, I work for SBS (though on the World News, not Insight), and this story is definitely a go for tonight. Haven't seen it though, so I don't know if it's any good.

Interesting story, though a bit out of date. According to the ATO site any production after 18 sept incured a tax of 38.5cpl though you can apply for a clean fuels rebate of 38.5cpl up until 2008-2010. I have been using biodiesel for approaching 18mths now and will vouch for the fact that the car runs quieter, and smoother on biodiesel as well as smelling a whole lot better.

    Dear Eco People,

Just letting you know that this coming Thursday on the SBS insiders program there will be a section on Biodiesel and its use with a focus on the Governments proposed tax on the fuel.

If you want more info on Biodiesel contact:

Section from the Biodiesel Association web site

    Biodiesel Fuel Standard Determination
The Fuel Standard (Biodiesel) Determination 2003 was signed by the Minister for the Environment and Heritage on 18 September. The determination sets out the physical and chemical parameters of the Biodiesel standard. It also sets out the associated test methods that the Government will use to determine compliance.
In recognising that manufacturers will require time to arrange for adequate testing facilities, Environment Australia has stated:
"The suite of parameters proposed for implementation on 18 September 2003 will ensure a quality biodiesel product enters the Australian market. As the biodiesel industry will need time to access quality analysis infrastructure, establish analytical techniques and gain accreditation for some test methodologies, it is proposed that there will be a progressive introduction of further parameters over time. This approach has previously been successfully adopted for automotive diesel and unleaded petrol."

    Hi Folks,
Here is a url for an Australian biodiesel discussion forumn that might be of
    interest to you.

At this stage I am still hoping that we will be able to get a biodiesel
buyers group up and running shortly as I believe that the new biodiesel
plant on the central coast is nearly ready.

    Regards,
    Cameron
