    Default UK - Ecotek device

Whilst perusing the porn...ooops web, I came across this little gadget.

It is a little valve fitted to the intake manifold on any petrol fourstroke that claims to reduce fuel consumption and in many cases increase performance.

It works (suposedly) by adding a high frequency pulse of air (5% of total intake charge) at cruise and under acceleration that add's turbulence to the intake charge and keeps the fuel better suspended in the air thus resulting in a better and more combustible mixture (although that 5% of air would have to effect the mixture by itself one would think)

I am usually very sceptical of little gadgets and the like, and the only thing that got my interest was that it ads this effect AFTER the carby where the fuel has already been added (as opposed to the hyclones and the like that promoted turbulence before the TB's)

It has also been tested by the UK Dept of Trade and Industry and it lived up to it's makers claims..

This is the website. http://www.ecotekplc.com/ ...has anyone heard or used one?? What were the results if ya have?

I've heard of them & like you I take great delight in taking the p!$$ out of anything like this mainly due to the fact that over the years I've seen & heard so many claims that if they all worked, I reckon my tank would start overflowing after about 100 klms. However, I have seen a couple of reports overseas from guys who I would call the non gullible types who have given these things a go & reckon they do work.
Still haven't heard of anyone's tank overflowing yet though

    hmmmm..

ive heard of these things before, Im pretty sure A current affair or something similar did a story on them, and they do apparently live up to expectations.

Id be really interested to talk to someone whos got one first hand.

wouldnt mind trying one out myself.

This topic has come up before do a search and there will be a few deatiled threads on the Ecotek, I am still a bit suspect of them despite all the rave reviews on their website and it's supposed to stop the kangaroo effect in 205's...mmm, in Australia I think they around the $180-$200 so you would want the thing to do something

for near 50 quid they'd wanna do something
now i am sure there is a hose at the rear of a V6 inlet manifold right in the middle that is only there for part of polution control so i spose you could fit one of the gadgets there maybe
but hey i may stick to tried and true methods of saving fuel and increased performance

ha ha ha, do you guys actually know what they do?

they just alow the engine to run lean, and bullshit to "frequency of air" thats just rubbish and i would be careful of a damn hot running engine.

no mods are as easy as "buy this part, it will increase the performance of any four stroke"

that is the biggest marketing crap of the 21st century.

first make sure your engine is running like new by cleaning and flushing the whole system, then work out that your car is going faster, not because you now have an extra 2hp from the ecotek (that you cant even feel when driving the car), but rather that you are $200 bucks in change lighter!!!

I didn't say how long it would last...

Maybe ya should've fitted EcoTek ....then it would've just fused into one giant blob of metal due to lean out...

BTW how come your home page states your car as having
    Bragging Rights
    Quarter Mile: 12.8 s @ 111 mph->
    0-60: 5.1 s
    Est. Horsepower: 290
when the dyno sheet shows 167bhp @ the wheels......surely you dont think your loosing 123hp in the driveline??

Or is this a misprint and it's supposed to be 190hp??

P.S..Saw your car at Auto Salon and it looked great...what went wrong with the engine???

Wow there a lot of cynics out there

I've used one of these devices for the last 2 years or so and this is what I reckon:

1/ performance increase - marginal if any
2/ throttle response improvement - maybe
    3/ emissions - no idea
    4/ raised running temp - haven't noticed

but fuel economy... I get between 50-75 extra km per tank. So I guess its paid for itself by now

I think perhaps in a fairly stock, normally driven car, the use of such a device might be relatively safe since the car is not(or rarely) pushed to its limits. In many of the highly modified and fanged cars on the forum, the use of an Ecotek could potentially be costly.

that's interesting 'cos a guy from hk logged onto the 206.net forum and complained of an engine running hot. he had a ecotek and oil cooler installed after he bought the car (2003 206gti)

I guess it has been a while since I've written an update....

    ...well I'm almost there!!

got it started recently. Sounds awesome through the 2.5" mandrel system as fleeting as it was.

Ended up having to get an ECU from the UK (which was fun & games). Wasn't too expensive in the end I guess - just took ages. Earlier updates explained how the existing ECU I had was in a "locked state" and all efforts to unlock it lead to dead ends. The answer ended up being at AutoFive in the UK (I'm sure many would of heard of them). Not them specifically but through them to some other guy who put me onto some other guy who put me onto the family dog who put me onto a company who reconditions ECU's. They were able to supply one in an unlocked state. Cost 235 BP plus freight and duty but it was better than purchasing a whole new management system (i've come too far now to turn back!!!!)

So right now the engine starts but the auto electrician is waiting for me to get the cooling system sorted so they can get it up to operational temp and sort the gauges etc.

This WAS all supposed to have been done by now but I kind of got let down by the guy who was building an aluminium radiator for me. So now, I'm doing it myself but with work like it is at the moment, spare time has been difficult to come by.

Hopefully, however, it'll be on the road before Christmas. The photos will come as soon as I get time to scratch myself
